The couple made their home near the Eden community in rural Hitchcock County, where they farmed until her husbands death in 1994. She then moved to Wauntea. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline; and husband, Dale. Survivors include her father, Ed Buffington of Wauneta; three sons, Vern Maris of Wauntea, Leon Maris and wife, Dawn of Paullina, Iowa and Devon Maris of McCook; and eight grandchildren. Services are Friday, 10 a.m. (MST), at Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet with the Rev. Kevin Fink officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. Friends may sign the register today, 2-6 p.m. (MST), at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta. The casket will remain closed. He began his employment with Russell Ready Mix of Orange City, Iowa in April 2001, where he was employed until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Chelsea Maris of Paullina; sons, Jace Maris of Paullina and Scott, Justin and Ryan of Colorado; two brothers, Vern Maris of Wauneta and Devon Maris of McCook. Services are Saturday, 2 p.m., at Eden Missionary Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Don Egle officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. He attended Stratton grade school, then Weld County Community Center Special Education in Greeley, Colo., until his family moved back to the Imperial area. He then attended the training center in Imperial, Frenchman Valley Developmental Services until he moved to McCook in 1984. He then worked at Southwest Area Training Services. He was active in People's First and Special Olympics bowling and track. He attended several Special Olympic meets and won numerous medals. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leon Maris. Survivors include his brother, Vern Maris of Wauneta and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his SWATS family. Graveside services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m. (MT) at Riverside Cemeter at Wauneta with the Rev. Kevin Fink officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-6 p.m., at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
