Always a union activist, he was elected vice president of Local 1220 of the Amalgamated Transit Union in 1958, and president of the local in 1960. As vice president of the Virginia State AFL-CIO and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Mr. Iddings was a principal lobbyist on labor, consumer and public interest issues in the General Assembly. In addition to the post with the Virginia State AFL-CIO and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Iddings was also president of the Richmond Regional Labor Council, a member of the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped, a trustee for the United Way of Greater Richmond (now United Way Services), a director for the Richmond Community Action Program and a member of the City Democratic Council. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
