His death was unexpected. Conner had been confined to the hospital for the past 15 days, recuperating from a broken leg. There was no official explanation as to the cause, however, it is possible that a blood clot, caused by the broken leg, might have brought on the death. It was reported that just prior to the time of passing, Conner was in good spirits and in apparent good health. Born in Floyd County, the son of the late Wilmeth Jane Martin and George Ben Conner, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Whitlock Conner, two daughters, Mrs. Maynard Sutphin, Roanoke, Barbara Jean Conner, Pulaski, one foster son, Harvey Newton Bowles, Cleveland, Ohio. Six brothers, Willard Conner, Buchanan; Ernest Conner, Roanoke; Clarence Conner Radford; Carl Conner, Radford; Claude Conner, Check, Va; Guy Conner, Check, Va; four sisters Mrs. Lonza Walton, Check, Va, Mrs Elliot Craighead, Fincastle, Mrs. Edward Stanley, Roanoke, Mrs. Annie Conner, Check, Va. The body is at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, pending funeral arrangements. on June 28, 1959.3
