Conner and Katherine Conner Cook (Ed); three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Caroline and Anna Cook; two brothers, Thomas L. Conner of Kentucky and Franklin K. Conner of California; a brother-in-law, James R. Slate Sr. (Liz); and a sister-in-law, Martha S. Thornhill, all of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Bon Secours Hospice. on November 13, 2008.2

     Franklin Keith Conner Franklin Keith Conner, 76, passed away peacefully on December, 14, 2016, in Knoxville, Tennessee, surrounded by family, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Franklin was born in North Carolina. He spent his childhood in Virginia and Kentucky before moving to sunny California, living in Pasadena and Newport Beach, before moving to Tennessee in 2016. After earning his accounting degree, he began his 36 year career with the State of California, working for the Board of Equalization. In his free time he loved reading, cooking, target shooting and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence Conner and Louise Conner; and brother, Clarence Conner, Jr.. Franklin is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of 53 years; children, Hunter (James) Yankopoulos; Martha (Robert) Allen and three wonderful grandchildren, Wiley Yankopoulos, Blaine Allen and Morgan Allen. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She had many special friends who she enjoyed spending time with and going on shopping trips to Lynchburg and Myrtle Beach. Janet retired from Anthem after 20 years of service. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and enjoyed helping at the Relay For Life every year. She was a 10 year survivor of breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald house in Roanoke, or the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Special thanks to the staff at South Roanoke Nursing Home and the staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their wonderful care during this difficult time. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by Dr. J. Michael Palmer. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday in Antioch Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Callaway, Va. At her request, she is being laid to rest alongside her father. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 366-0707. on April 21, 2010.1

Smith of Salisbury, N.C; two daughters, Mrs. Lora Thorn of Mullens and Mrs. Russell (Bondean) Spence of Caldwell; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Conner of Princeton, Mrs. Mamie Poff of Lafayette, Va., Mrs. Ina Smith and Mrs. Amelia Board, both of Roanoke, Va; one brother, Tom Austin of Bluefield; 11 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. on October 25, 1981.2
