He had not been in good health for the past few months, but his death was unexpected, and came as a shock to both his family and a host of friends. He was 74 years old. Judge Akers was born in West Virginia, but came to Missouri in 1908, and lived for a time in the Gower community. He united with the old Mount Carmel Baptist Church, southeast of Gower, but following his marriage and removal to the Lawson community, united with the Methodist church there, and had been an active and helpful member until the time of his death. He engaged in farming thruout his life. Judge Akers served as a member of the Clinton County Court twelve years, representing the first district. He retired from this office in December. During this service he was esteemed by his associates and the people of the county for his fairness and earnest desire to render his best service in the office. He was interested not only in matters connected with his official duties, but also in the schools, churches, and every community activity. His sincerity and willingness to give of his time to these institutions, and community welfare, as well as his kindness and a gentle and friendly disposition, won for him many, many friends. Services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Lawson, conducted by Rev. Stuart Whitney, and burial was in Lawson Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Georgia Akers, and one daughter, Mrs. William O'Dell, of Lawson; two sons, Estil Akers of Lathrop, and Lester Akers, of Lawson. on March 17, 1961.10
