     Betty Cooper married Leo Allen Yates Sr., son of Abner Chapel Yates and Lila Cam Sweeney.1,2 Betty Cooper was buried at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Knox Co., Tennessee.1,2 She Betty C. Yates, 83, died on November 29, 2018 at St. Elizabeth's Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Baltimore, MD. She was born on April 27, 1935 in Greenville, TN to the late Rev. DB and Isabelle "Belle" Cooper. Mrs. Yates moved a lot growing up but always considered herself being from Tennessee. She attended Gallaudet College and went on to graduate from Hiwassee College with an AA Degree. Mrs. Yates met her husband while attending a Deaf-related conference at Gallaudet College in 1963. They married in 1965 and she moved to New Carrollton, MD to be with him. In 1978 they moved to Bowie, MD and the in 2002 to Fredericksburg, VA. She then spent a year at Brightview Assisted Living before moving to St. Elizabeth's. Mrs. Yates retired from the Washington Post newspaper in 1996. She was a member of Magothy UMC of the Deaf and attended there until she went into nursing care. She was a proud Methodist coming from a line of Methodist pastors. Mrs. Yates was a very devoted mother and wife. While living in Fredericksburg, VA she enjoyed playing cards with her deaf lady friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters Doris Cooper Caldwell and Allie Anderson. Mrs. Yates is survived by her husband of 53 years, Leo Yates, Sr., her twin children Rev. Leo Yates, Jr. and Sarah Yates, her nephews; Joe Anderson, Rev. John Anderson, Steve Anderson, Chip Caldwell, and John Moore and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN, where interment will follow.1 Her married name was Yates.1 She was born on April 27, 1935 at Greenville, Greene Co., Tennessee.1 She died on November 29, 2018 at Baltimore, Maryland, at age 83.1

David attended the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind for eight years then transferred to the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. David worked for the United States Postal Service and the Free Lance-Star until health issues forced him to retire early. He loved collecting stamps and baseball cards, playing pinball on his iPad and watching old shows made in the 1970s and 1980s. David especially enjoyed watching his favorite sports on television, which included the Redskins, UVA basketball, and the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include his parents, Jack and Evelyn Yates; brothers Steve Yates (Connie) of Woodbridge, and Kris Yates of Fredericksburg; Uncle Roger Kegley (Betty) of Richmond; nieces Emily, Ashley, Megan; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Yates, in 1981.3 He was born on January 2, 1961 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,4 He died on March 20, 2020 at Fredericksburg, Virginia, at age 59.3
