She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall A. and Roxie Manning Sission; husband, Oba M. Hunt; and son-in-law, Wayne Britt. She was a longtime member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church and a member of the McDaniel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Iris retired from the Montgomery County Treasurers office after 25 years of service. Surviving are her daughter, Joan H. Britt; grandchildren, Kimberly Dorton and husband David, Adam Britt and wife Andra, Allen Britt and wife Amanda; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Britt, Brittney Dorton, Abigail Britt, Samuel Dorton, Anna Stuart Britt, Katherine Dorton, and Nicholas Britt; sister, Cleo S. DeWeese; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to either Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, New Hope Presbyterian Church, or Good Samaritan Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Joseph C. Thomas Center at Richfield for their love and compassion over the last 10 years. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery. on July 13, 2014.6

Sarah was born in Gower, Missouri, but lived most of her life in McDowell County, West Virginia. She attended Concord College and was a school teacher as a young woman. She and her husband of almost 60 years, Jeffrie Lee Allen, who preceded her in 1997, owned and operated McDowell Auto Parts in Welch, WV, for most of their married life. They sold the business and retired to Rock ledge, FL, in 1989, after vacationing here for many years. Sarah and Jeff were avid golfers and played as long as their health permitted. They were strong supporters of the First United Methodist Church of Welch, and the first United Methodist Church of Cocoa. Although they had no children of their own they helped many young people over the years with education and other endeavors, and supported various missionary programs. Sarah was the last remaining of eight siblings, the most recent to pass away being Ina Simpson Payne of Cocoa in Novem ber 2001. Sarah is survived by nieces and nephews in Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and Florida. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Brevard Hospice and The Town Square Assisted Living Facility for the loving care and concern they provided Sarah. Burial will be at Florida Memorial Gardens. on May 25, 2007.4

She was born in Wyoming on March 13, 1919 to the late Posey and Addie Howery Sowers, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lawrence Martin. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley M. and Bill Shaver, Blacksburg, Nita M. and Marlin Bishop, Christiansburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy L. and Dorothy Martin, Radford, Bobby A. and Mary Jane Martin, Christiansburg; eight grandchildren, Mitch Martin, Mike Shaver, Doug Shaver, Darrell Roberts, Chris Roberts, Dave Martin, Chris Martin, and Tonya Bishop; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen S. Graham, Christiansburg, Zorene and Johnny Radford, Floyd; a brother and sister-in-law, Ferd and Loraine Sowers, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 20, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Abundant Life Fellowship, Pilot with the Rev. Leon Alley, the Rev. Layne Board, and the Rev. Jerry Buckner officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Sunday, and the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Abundant Life Fellowship, 4491 Old Pike Road, Pilot. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Evelyn Parisch, Dr. T.P. Davis and his staff, Dr. Harry McCoy and his staff, the nursing staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital, and the staff at English Meadows Assisted Living in Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24068.
