Interment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held by the Floyd Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. on March 10, 1997.1

He was a life long resident of Floyd County and a firm believer in soil conservation, being one of the first farmers in Floyd County to use strip cropping and crop rotation. He served as an assistant agriculture teacher at Check High School before becoming president of Hatcher & Hall Dairies, Inc. He helped found Select Sires, and was on the Board of Directors of Maryland and Virginia Dairy Association. He was also a member of Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Pauline Sisson Hatcher. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Larry and Barbara Hatcher of Floyd, Neal and Debbie Hatcher of Greensboro, N.C., Reba and Wayne Goff of Floyd, Norma and Ralph Roberts of Frederick, Md; grandchildren, Sterling Hatcher, Kristin Goff, Nicholas and Suzanne Hatcher, and Julia Roberts; step granddaughter, Heather Pratt; step great-granddaughter, Cassidy Jordan Pratt. Graveside services will be in Jacksonville Cemetery with Military Rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Floyd Post #7854. on June 2, 2001.1

Cynthia Alice "Cindy" Martin was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.3,10 She was born on February 11, 1946 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.4,11,10 She died on July 17, 2010 at Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 64.3,11,5,10 She Cynthia Alice (Cindy) Martin, 64, of Vinton, Va., passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010. Cynthia Martin is remembered as one of the two most important people in the development of TAP Ex-Offender programs and the development of Virginia CARES, the first pre and post release program in the Commonwealth of Virginia for inmates of state correctional institutions. She was a graduate of William Byrd High School. Cindy was responsible for lobbying at the General Assembly to see that there was a reentry program for the people coming out of prison, that was supportive of them and respected their ability to change. As a result, Virginia CARES has worked with over 70,000 former inmates with a successful reduction of recidivism. Cindy was a loving and giving person. She loved being able to help people in need and in times of crisis. Cindy never married or had children of her own. She had several nieces and nephews that she loved as her own. to anyone for advice and counsel. She was loved by all and will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ocie Martin, and two brothers, Samuel Hubert Martin and Paul Wyatt Martin. Cindy is survived by her devoted niece, Jayne Martin Wilson, of Clayton, N.C; special devoted stepson, Jeffrey Graybill; devoted sister-in-law, Frankie E. (Betty) Brunk, of Raleigh, N.C; and two special friends, Bruce Bunniewell, Vinton, and Ashley Thomas, Vinton; her dog and faithful companion, Molly Martin. Thanks to the wonderful women at Helpful Hands Home Health Care, Carilion Clinic Hospice and Meals on Wheels. A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. on July 18, 2010.3

Frankie Elizabeth "Betty" Brown was buried at Mountain View Methodist Church, Mountain View Methodist Church, Wytheville, Wythe Co., Virginia.2,4 She was born on February 17, 1934 at Buchanan, Botetourt Co., Virginia.2,4 She married Samuel Hubert Martin, son of Robert Clifford Martin and Ocie Katherine Austin, on December 20, 1952 at Buchanan, Botetourt Co., Virginia.1,2,5,3,6 As of December 20, 1952,her married name was Martin.3 Frankie Elizabeth "Betty" Brown died on July 30, 2011 at Clayton, Johnston Co., North Carolina, at age 77.2,4 She Frankie Elizabeth "Betty" Brunk, 77, passed away peacefully in Clayton, NC, on the evening of July 30, 2011. Betty was born on February 17, 1934 in Buchanan, VA. She was a devoted wife and mother, a dedicated grandmother and a beloved friend. In addition to raising four children, she spent her life caring for those around her which, many times, included the friends of her children and neighbors. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as "Granny Betty." Betty's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to the relationships with friends, colleagues, students and faculty at NC State University that she developed during her years of employment at Baxley's restaurant on Hillsborough Street. She became known as "Mama Betty" to many – her family was always growing. She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands Samuel Hubert Martin and Dale Patton Brunk; and her grandson, Kenneth Blanchard White II. Betty is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Martin of Kathleen, GA; her daughter Jayne Paige Wilson and her husband, Rob, of Clayton, NC; her daughter Jenny Leigh Wilson and her husband Al of Spring Hill, TN; and Tracy Dale Brunk and his wife, Christina, of Raleigh, NC. In addition to her children, Betty is survived by four grandchildren: Katie Wilson of Wilmington, NC; Sky Wilson of Spring Hill, TN; and Grace and Thomas Brunk of Raleigh, NC. Betty will be laid to rest at a family burial site at the Mountain View United Methodist Church in Wytheville, VA with her husband. The family would like to thank the staff and community of the Bryan Center in Clayton, NC for the personal attention and compassionate care they provided to Betty during her time of residence and passing. Additionally, the family would like to thank the friends that visited Betty over her period of declining health. on August 1, 2011.2
