The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the 3rd floor staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Rehab Center and the 1 West staff at Friendship Manor. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Chester Lykins. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. He was a devoted, loving husband of 26 years, as well as, a loving father and grandfather (Papa). Mr. Whitlow was a dedicated member of Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. He was a devoted employee of 43 years as a sawyer for Griffith Lumber Company and owned and operated his business with his son, Robert for several years. An avid race fan of the late Dale Earnhardt, David also enjoyed fishing, but above all else he enjoyed his grandchildren most of all. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia C. Whitlow; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Hope Whitlow; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Robert Davis; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debby Conner; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Clay Link, Brenda and Stacy Graham; grandchildren, Melissa Salyer, Justin and Stephine Link, Jessica and Holly Graham, Alex Conner; brother and sister-in-law, Barney and Freeda Whitlow; half brothers, Hugh Whitlow, Elliott Whitlow; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Hartman, Viola Hatcher, Mary Jo and Earl Rakes; half sisters and brother-in-law, Marie Feazell, Effie Mae and Jerry Green. Funeral services will be held on Friday August 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Cannaday, Rev. Mike Varner, Rev. Leon Wood, and Rev. Graham Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd is in charge of the arrangements. on August 22, 2002.2
