Cook, 92, residing with his daughter and son-in-law in Huron, left to meet his Lord Jesus Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, with his daughters by his side. Warren was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Beckley, W.Va., to Kenzie Elmer and Anna Lena (Spangler) Cook. He was raised on his family's dairy farm in Beckley. As a young man he had an interest in flying, leading to a life-long interest in the Ford Tri-Motors, which he loved to watch take off or land. Warren graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1943 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. When he returned, his family purchased a dairy farm in Monroe County, W.Va., where he eventually met the love of his life, Betty Weikle. They married in July, 1952. In 1954, Warren and Betty moved to Ohio, where he found employment with Columbia Gas, and retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. Warren was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for several years, and volunteered in other areas of ministry. In his retirement, Warren enjoyed taking days trips with Betty and helping her make Christmas cookies as well as baking bread for family and friends. He was very mechanically inclined, keeping their home and vehicles in good repair. He was devoted to his wife and to taking care of her. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, great-grandsons, and his greatest hope was in Christ. Warren is survived by his two daughters, Teri (Wayne) Gerber of Huron and Sarah (Jim) Ommert of Sandusky; five grandsons, Brian Gerber of Castalia, Brad (Megan Davis) Gerber of Huron, Steve (Hilary) Ommert of Wadsworth, Ohio, Mike Ommert of Huron and Matt Ommert of Sandusky; two great-grandsons, Jackson and Landon Ommert; and brother, James Cook of Charleston, S.C. A joyous, just in time for Christmas reunion in heaven included his wife, Betty Cook, who preceded him in death Aug. 12, 2016; his parents; and a brother, K.E. Cook Jr. Warren’s family would like to thank his beloved caregivers, Michelle Garcia and Shontia Ramsey, for their compassionate assistance, and the quality and joy that filled his days with them in the months after Betty passed. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, until funeral services at 11 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Pastor David Hixson and Warren's grandson, Steve Ommert, presiding. Burial will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory in Sandusky is assisting the family with arrangements. Those wishing to contribute to Warren's memory may do so to Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870, or to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870. on December 20, 2016.3
