C. Giller in Roodhouse, at 12:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1929. Four weeks ago he became ill and at that time he went to his daughter's home to be cared for. Uremic poisoning is said to be the cause of his death. He had always been a robust man and was able to continue his farm work until a short time before his death.

Mr. Otey was the son of Samuel and Nancy Connor-Otey, and was born in Montgomery county, Virginia July 27,1847. When a young man he joined the Confederate army serving under General Lee until the close of the war. In1868 he came to Illinois, locating in Greene county and shortly afterward took up his residence in Pleasant Dale neighborhood, where he continued to reside until a few weeks before his death. There are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One brother, Aaron Otey, resides in Pleasant Dale.

Mr. Otey was highly regarded by a large circle of friends and was affectionately known in his home neighborhood as "Uncle Dan". He was not a member of any lodge or church, but gave of his means for the support of the church. It can truly be said of him that he will be sadly missed from the activities of his home community.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Baptist Church in Pleasant Dale, Rev. W. R. Johnson, Jacksonville in charge. The Duncan Sisters Quartet furnished the music. The pall bearers were Harry Otey, Lyman Prindle, Clyde Hubbard, Fred Gibler, Mark Kinser and Bob Hubbard. The flowers were carried by Mrs. L. R. Prindle, Mrs. Ernest Schutz of Pleasant Dale, Mrs. D.
