Chittum, Montvale; a devoted friend, Elvah Smith, Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 1992 with the Rev. J. Michael Palmer officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW Post 1264 will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel where the family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday. on July 30, 1992.1

     Ruth Evelyn Perdue Ruth “Doot” Perdue Gearheart, 97, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She was born in West Virginia on August 22, 1926 to Oma and Nellie Perdue. Ruth was part of a large family and moved to the Roanoke Valley as a child. She was preceded in death by her parents and most of her siblings, and her husband, Dewey Gearheart. Ruth graduated from William Fleming High School and went on to briefly work at the Pentagon. She returned to the Roanoke area to marry Adam “Dewey” Gearheart and start their family. Ruth was a wonderful mother who enjoyed family gatherings and Sunday dinners. She returned to work once her four children were older and retired from Blue Cross. Ruth’s faith in God was important to her. She was a member of the Roanoke Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1945. Ruth enjoyed traveling the world, and especially going on cruises. One of her last, and most memorable cruises was around the Mediterranean Sea. Ruth never met a stranger, she loved to laugh, have a good time, and would talk to just about anyone. Her family describes her as a feisty lady! Ruth loved cats, especially her grand-kitties, Oreo and Dusty. Ruth is survived by her children, Sharon Lynn Downey (L.P.), Peggy Chitwood (Mike), Steven Gearheart, and Brenda Gray; her brother, Larry Perdue; her six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to say a special thank you to caregiver, Lori from Home Instead, and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice (Lisa, Teresa, and Jennifer) for all the kindness and care they provided Ruth and her family. Interment will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery with Military Rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post # 127. on November 14, 2015.9

She then married Carl Wyse on August 14, 1954 and he preceded her in death on September 25, 1997. She was a homemaker and worked in sales, and enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her grandchildren. She attended the Pettisville Missionary Church. She is survived by seven children, Rita (Alex) Johnson of Wauseon, Ralph Lyon of Florida, Richard Wyse of Wauseon, Delores (Dennis) Lorentz of Bryan, Charles Wyse, and Bonnie (Craig) Grisier both of Wauseon, and David (Linda) Wyse of Wausau, WI; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Jr. and Gene Gearheart; two sisters, Betty Jo Shockley and Helen Guthrie. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sons, Albert and infant son, Joseph; grandson, Michael Lyon; four brothers, Bill, Jack, Bob, and Jimmy Gearheart; and one sister, Teenie Cuff. Mr. Gearheart is survived by his wife, Dorothy Duncan Gearheart; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bobby Robertson, Ann and Jimmy Harrell; grandsons and wives, Craig and Kim Robertson, David and Debra Robertson; granddaughter, Jennifer Robertson; great-grandchildren, Michael, David, Amber, Karly, and Cody Robertson, all of Craig County. He is also survived by brothers, John of Floyd, Robert of Winchester, Gene of Massachusetts, Jimmy of Florida, Jack of Roanoke; sisters, Margie Wyse of Ohio, Helen Guthrie and Betty Shockley, both of Salem; many other family members and friends. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on January 31, 1997.1

(Sherri) Lyon of Sheffield, Mrs. Rita (Alex) Johnson of Wauseon, Ralph (Becky) Lyon of Delta, Richard Wyse of Wauseon, Mrs. Delores (Roger) Nichols of Montpelier, Charles Wyse of Archbold, Mrs. Bonnie (Craig) Grisier of Wauseon, and David Wyse of Wausau, Wis; 25 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Earl Wyse of Wauseon and Alvin Wyse of Sanford, Fla; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Zenz of Delta and Effie Eberly of Delta. Other than his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ralph Wyse, Freeman Wyse and Reo Wyse; and two sisters, Laura Sampson and Mable Pike.      Clyde Williams Blosser Clyde Williams Blosser, age 82, of Blountville, TN passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1937 in Danville, VA, and was the son of the late Orlo and Margaret Blosser. He grew up in Salem, VA, and was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School. He retired from Kroger after 42 years where he served as a store manager at the Bristol and Abingdon locations. He enjoyed golf and farming, and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Clyde was a dedicated worker, father, and friend to all. Always respectful of others, a generous man who was always willing to help. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Warren Blosser and Alan Blosser and sister, Barbara McDaniel. Surviving are his loving wife, Joyce Blosser; sons, Michael Blosser and wife Kendall, Greg Teaster; daughters, Kimberly Painter, Becky Eller and husband Jeff, Vicki Wyatt; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends, Curtis and Sue Ellen Turner, Ken and Jane Rotenberry, Bruno and Bonnie Rampazzo; his Kroger Family; and a host of other good family members and friends.4 He was born on February 5, 1937 at Danville, Virginia.2,3,4 He married Betty Jo Gearheart, daughter of John Clinton Gearheart and Mary Margaret McKinley Bales, on July 11, 1959 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.5,1 Clyde Williams Blosser and Betty Jo Gearheart were divorced on January 20, 1976 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.3 Clyde Williams Blosser died on June 6, 2019 at Bristol, Sullivan Co., Tennessee, at age 82.4

     William Lewis Wimmer Jr. was buried at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Tuckahoe, Henrico Co., Virginia.10,2 He William Lewis Wimmer, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully at Johnston-Willis Hospital on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. Lewis was born in Salem, Va., the son of Lewis, Sr. and Sarah (Gearheart) Wimmer. He was predeceased by his parents; his son David; his sisters Dora Dean Sutphin and Lorraine Bowles; and his brother Ray Wimmer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Pauline (Spivey) Wimmer; his daughters Pam (Tom) Digges of Manassas, VA and Susan (Joe Abbott) Wimmer of Richmond; his son Bill (Brenda) Wimmer of Bumpass, VA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother Jack (Ann) Wimmer of Salem, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. After graduating from high school, Lewis went to work for Western Electric until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to work for the Bell System and its successor companies until he retired as an engineer in 1986. He then became a farmer, his true avocation; he owned Bloomingdale Farm in Louisa County and raised Black Angus cattle until his health declined earlier this year. Known by his family and friends as “Jr.” or “Whitey”, Lewis was a much-loved character and will not be forgotten.
