Surviving are her son, Kelly Walters and wife, Virginia, Christiansburg; daughters, Brenda Thomas and husband, Billy, Christiansburg, Shirley Bartlett, Blacksburg, and Jean Walters, Salem; grandchildren, Nancy Jo Walters, David and Katy Flinchum, Lori Flinchum, all of Christiansburg, Melissa and Donnie Shonkwiler, Vinton, and William Mosby Baker (Willie), Blacksburg; special loving care giver, great-grandson, Donald Steele and Sarah McGowan; two great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; four great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Neal Turner. Interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or donations can be made to Riner Rescue Squad, P.O. 858, Riner, VA 24149. on May 22, 2011.5

Millard Filmore Hardy Funeral services for Millard Filmore Hardy, aged 90, of Keeling, were conducted Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the home by the Elder J. R. Wilson. Mr. Hardy died Wednesday evening at 12:00 o'clock at his home in Keeling. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hardy, and the following children: Mrs. Gladys Hodnett, of South Boston; Mrs. Bryan Johnson and Miss Alice Hardy, of Keeling; J. Wash Hardy, of Ringgold; C. M. Hardy, of Glenwood; Jacob B. Hardy, of Danville, and Sammie L. Surviving are his wife of Ringgold, and the following son and daughters: William Hardy, Miss Mildred Hardy, Miss Mabel Hardy and Mrs. Ethel Slaughter, all of Ringgold, and Mrs. Linwood Alderson of Sutherlin; two brothers and two sisters: Sam L. Hardy of Keeling, Jacob B. Hardy of Glenwood, Mrs. Byar Johnson of Keeling and Mrs. Gladys Hodnett of South Boston; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body will be at the funeral home prior to the services, and the family will be at the home on Ringgold Rt. 2. on January 23, 1966.4

Most of his life was spent in Pittsylvania County and for the last 12 years he made his home at Glenwood. He was married to the late Emma Lewis Hardy. Survivors include, one daughter, Mrs. Henry Lumsden of Mineral; three sons, William Bernard and Samuel Howard Hardy, both of Glenwood, and Clifton Hardy of Danville; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Hodnett of South Boston and Mrs. Mary B. Johnson of Keeling; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends this evening from 7:30 to 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence on Starling Ave., Glenwood. on November 8, 1969.2

He had been in declining health for the past 2 1/2 years. Mr. Hardy was a native of Keeling born April 12, 1896. He was a son of the late M. F. Hardy and Elizabeth H. Hardy. Most of his life was spent in feeling where he was engaged in farming before retiring. He first married Miss Gertrude Knight who died April 26, 1961. He later married Mrs. Marie Knight Breeden who survives. Mr. Hardy was of the Baptist Faith and a veteran of World War One. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Harold T. Hardy of Rt. No. 1 Sandston, Va; One step-son and one-stepdaughter, Robert Breeden and Mrs. Lillian Taylor, both of Richmond; one brother and two sisters, Jacob B. Hardy, Glenwood; Mrs. Byar Johnson, Keeling and Mrs. J. W. Hodnett of South Boston. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Chapel and interment will be in the Hardy family cemetery at Keeling. The body will remain at the funeral home prior to the services and the family will be at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Byar Johnson at Keeling. on June 1, 1967.4

Hattie Carey Lewis died on January 15, 1970 at Danville, Virginia, at age 83.1,3 She Mrs. Hattie Lewis Hardy, 83, of Rt. 3, in the Glenwood Community was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital Thursday at 8:10 p.m. She had been in poor health for several years and was taken seriously ill Thursday morning. Mrs. Hardy was born March 14, 1886 in Keeling Va., a daughter of the late William B. Lewis and Lucy Ann Owen Lewis. Her entire life was spent in the Kentuck and Keeling area of Pittsylvania County. She was a member of Old Mill Primitive Baptist Church, and was married to Charlie M. Hardy who died in 1949. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Wiles of Rt. 2, Ringgold, Mrs. Lenwood McCormick and Mrs. Polly Jeffress, both of Danville, and Mrs. Elsie Glass of Lynchburg, one son, Matthew Hardy of Danville; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Hardy of Ringgold and Mrs. Gertrude Lewis of Danville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The body is at Swicegood Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements, and the family is at the residence, Corner of Thrush St. and Old Halifax Raod near Glenwood school. on January 16, 1970.1

Charles Shelby "Charlie" Johnson was buried at Hardy Cemetery, Mountain Lane, Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.3 He was born on December 11, 1877 at Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2 He married Mary Byar Hardy, daughter of Millard Filmore Hardy and Elizabeth James "Lizzie" 'Bet" Hardy, on December 27, 1906 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2 Charles Shelby "Charlie" Johnson died on August 27, 1929 at Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, at age 51.3,2 He C. S. Johnson, age 51, of Keeling, died at his home. Mr. Johnson was a well known merchant of that place and was also engaged in the housemowing business. Beside his widow he is survived by three children: Irene, Shelby and Mary Alice Johnson and two sisters Mrs. J. R. Martin of Roanoke, Virginia, and Mrs. A. A. Sherrill of Northfield, Ohio. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted from the graveside near the home on Wednesday evening at four o'clock by Rev. E. L. Hard Castle, assisted by Dr. S. T. A. Kent. The pall bearers were: J. W., C. M., and J. B. Hardy, Charlie Ragsdale, Jim Martin and Josie Hodnett. The flowers were borne by his nieces, Mrs. L. B. Wiles, Mrs. Linwood Alderson, Misses Elsie Ratcliff, Hallie Martin, Mary Martin, Mildred Hardy, Annie Laura DeMott and Annie Hardy. on August 30, 1929.4
