She was a deeply spiritual person and member of the Liberty Bible Church and former member of the Atwater First Baptist Church. Elva was known for her "green thumb" as she was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed quilting and writing poems. Elva is survived by her son, Russell Swanigan; daughter-in-law, Avalon (Lott) Swanigan; grandchildren, Cheryl Swanigan and Jeff Swanigan; great-grandchildren, Krissina Bair and Noah Swanigan; and her great-great-grandchildren, Ian and Emry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Galen Edward Swanigan. The couple was married on October 19, 1935. She was also preceded by her brothers, Casper and Ray, and her sister, Arlene. Burial will take place on a later date at the Limaville-Lexington Cemetery. on August 5, 2011.2
