Strickler, Norfolk; and Samuel Ward Strickler, Roanoke; and two grandsons. on November 18, 1957.4

Roscoe Leeton Guthrie

     Roscoe Leeton Guthrie was buried at Strickler Cemetery, Rt. 221 N. near Little River Bridge, Floyd Co., Virginia.1 He was born on August 6, 1886 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2 He married Elizabeth Belle "Eliza" Strickler, daughter of John Ballard Strickler and Celeste Sowder, on February 24, 1907 at Floyd Co., Virginia.3 Roscoe Leeton Guthrie died on May 3, 1913 at Little River, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 26.1,2,4 He Claude Nowlin, about 20 years old, and Roscoe Guthrie, about 21, were instantly killed and Dallas Bryant seriously injured by a boiler explosion at the sawmill of C. W. Guthrie at Pine Creek, Saturday. The bodies of both dead men were badly mangled and scalded, one of Nowlin's hands being found a tree 100 yards from the mill, while other parts of the bodies were scattered over stacks of lumber and debris. Roscoe Guthrie leaves a young widow and two small children. His widow was formerly a Miss Strickler, of Floyd county, Va. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Guthrie, also survive. on May 6, 2013.4
