Sarah D. Grace DeWeese was buried at Boggess Cemetery, Zenith, Monroe Co., West Virginia.5 She was born circa 1855 at Montgomery Co., Virginia; In the 1900 Census Sarah listed her birth date as Jun 1859, this is not possible given her 1860 Census record.1 As of May 29, 1873,her married name was Christie.1 She married Tillotson McClure Christie on May 29, 1873 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.1 Sarah D. Grace DeWeese died on May 25, 1915 at Willowton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.6 She One of the most distressing occurrences in the history of the county was reported from Willowton neighborhood yesterday. Mrs. Sarah Christie was instantly killed about 8:30 o'clock yesterday morning at her home near Willowton by her son, Ernest Christie, by the accidental discharge of a shotgun which he was handling. According to his story, Ernest Christie was going to hunt some crows and had taken the loaded gun from its resting place for that purpose when it was discharged. After the fatal shot was fired, and his mother lay dead, he put the gun safely away and slowly walked across a field to the home of his brother, T. W. Christie, where he related the following story: "As I was starting to hunt some crows, ma was busily working about the room; I had the shotgun loaded in my hands, which fired some way or other, filling her breast with shot, causing instant death." Ernest Christie was reported to have neither seemed shocked nor excited, but was apparently trying to console his brother, Tom, who was broken down and grief at the sight of his mother lying in her blood, by telling him that she had to die anyway. This was taken by the neighbors to create a suspicion that there is some derangement of the young man's mind, and it was reported later in the day that an inquest would be held and also an inquiry into the young man's sanity. Mrs. Christie is survived by two sons and a daughter who live at Eccles, one son who lives at Radford, and two sons who live in Willowton, and has many relatives in this section and in Princeton. It was not decided yesterday where Mrs. Christie would be buried, but it is thought the remains will be taken to Monroe County to be laid by the side of her husband. on May 26, 1915.6

In 1964 she went to work for the Commonwealth of Virginia as Deputy Clerk of Montgomery County and was promoted two years later to Clerk of the Court. During her 24 years in that position she saw the judicial system change in many ways including the court dividing into three branches, office and personnel expansion and growth and the computerization of the office-and she embraced it all. She was President of the Association of Clerks of the District Courts of Virginia in 1979 and retired in 1990 as Clerk of the Montgomery County Combined District Court. She also was fortunate to have a second home in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and loved spending time there. She had many friends in that area which she considered her home away from home. After retirement, she traveled extensively and her generous, outgoing nature drew people to her wherever she was. Marie was very blessed for she loved life, friends, family and creating happiness for those around her. There were really wonderful moments in her life, and she didn't miss many. She leaves behind many special and dear friends.
