     Benjamin "Ben" Sweeney/Swinney Benjamin was a preacher in Franklin Co., Virginia, for the Methodist Episcopal Church, as listed in "Virginia Court Order Bk. 4" Pg. 127. By 1805, Benjamin owned land along Nicholas Creek, as does his father, Edmund of Prince Edward Co., Virginia. Benjamin's will is in Will Book 2, (1812-1825) pg. 329 of Franklin Co., Virginia. In the 1810 census of Franklin Co., Benjamin is listed in the 26 to 45 year age group. This would mean he was born between 1765 and 1784. In July and August of 1791, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, Benjamin brought suit against Redmond Cody, and was awarded 2 pound, 2 shillings, and 6 pence. His witness for the July session was Rubin Compton, a neighbor. Will of Benjamin Sweeney, 1823 Franklin County Will Book 2, Page 529, 1812-1825 In the name of God Amen I Benjamin Sweeney of the County of Franklin and state of Virginia being very weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make ordain this my last will and Testament and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it does god to bless me in this life I give demand and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath as much of personally property as will discharge all just and lawful debts. Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Sweeney my dearly and beloved wife all my real and personal property to be for her benefit during her life or widowhood. If the said Elizabeth Sweeney should marry the said estate is to be the personally part is to be equally divided between Joel and Jonathan Sweeney. The lands at the death or the marriage of their mother is to be divided between Joel and Jonathan Sweeney. Joel Sweeney is to have the upper part of the said land lying on the north side of the said land. The dividing line between Joel and Jonathan Sweeney is to begin at the level towards the hollow field and a chestnut tree and thence from the chestnut north east and south west from the same. Item I give also unto Rebacca Moore the wife of William Moore five dollars to be paid out of my personalty estate if it remains at the end of her mothers widowhood or decease. Item I also give unto Ann Sweeney one bed and furniture to be her lawful right and property and one little wheel and cotton cards. I likewise constitute make and ordain Abraham Jones and Moses Jinney the executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke and disamerict and every other former wills legacies and execution by me in any wise named and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.      Catherine "Fanny" Underwood was buried at Hall Cemetery, Hall's Ridge Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.² She was born on March 30, 1832 at Stuart, Patrick Co., Virginia.² She married Benjamin Sweeney/Swinney, son of Jonathan "Jack" Sweeney/Swinney and Dicey Parker, on July 7, 1853 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ As of July 7, 1853,her married name was Sweeney/Swinney. Catherine "Fanny" Underwood died on March 18, 1922 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 89.²

     Jonathan "Jack" Sweeney/Swinney was born in 1804 at Franklin Co., Virginia. He married Dicey Parker on September 5, 1828 at Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ Jonathan "Jack" Sweeney/Swinney died after 1885 at Floyd Co., Virginia.

     Dicey Parker was born in 1807 at Franklin Co., Virginia. She married Jonathan "Jack" Sweeney/Swinney, son of Benjamin "Ben" Sweeney/Swinney, on September 5, 1828 at Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ As of September 5, 1828,her married name was Sweeney/Swinney.¹ Dicey Parker died after 1870 at Floyd Co., Virginia.

     James Cannaday was buried at Elsie Jones Cemetery, Rt. 793, near Endicott Assembly of God Church, Franklin Co., Virginia; His tombstone reads "Pvt. Wallace's Regt. 3 VA Inf Rev. War."¹ He James Cannaday fought under General Greene in the Revolution, in the 3rd Virginia Regiment, in Captain Gustavus Brown Wallace's Company. James and Elizabeth (Rakes) Cannaday owned about 500 acres of land, two hundred of which is now under water at the Philpot Reservoir. The Cannaday family lived in the western part of Franklin Co., Virginia. The homestead was originally of log construction and is now covered with wood boards. It is in poor condition, but was still standing in 1998, making it over 200 years old. The present owner is a Rakes, who grew up in the area. An old cemetery is on top of the hill behind the home, and this is possibly where the Cannadays are both buried. The home is on Runnet Bag Road, named after the creek running next to it, in a rural area, south of Rocky Mount, Virginia. At one time, James Cannaday's land stretched from Runnet Bag Creek to Otter Creek, down to the Smith River. James' will is in "Will Book 2" Pg. 169, Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia. He was born in 1750 at Buckinghamshire, England.¹ He married Elizabeth "Betty" Raikes/Rakes circa 1787 at England. James Cannaday died in February, 1817 at Franklin Co., Virginia.

     Elizabeth "Betty" Raikes/Rakes was born at England. She died at Franklin Co., Virginia. She married James Cannaday, son of William Cannaday and Nancy Unknown, circa 1787 at England. As of circa 1787,her married name was Cannaday.

     William Cannaday was born circa 1730 at England.¹ He married Nancy Unknown circa 1748.¹ William Cannaday died in 1801 at Franklin Co., Virginia.¹

     Ruby Merritt King was buried at Yates Family Cemetery, near Stonewall Church, one-half mile off 4366 Rt. 221 N., Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,2 She was born on June 21, 1907 at Floyd Co., Virginia.² She died on July 24, 1907 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,2

     George Reed was born on November 8, 1783 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.² He married Elizabeth Anna Altizer before 1809 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.² George Reed died on November 12, 1837 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 54.²

     Elizabeth Anna Altizer was born on September 9, 1786 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ As of 1800,her married name was Reed. She married George Reed, son of Humphrey Reed Sr. and Pamelia Unknown, before 1809 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Elizabeth Anna Altizer died in 1858 at Floyd Co., Virginia.²

     Jonathan Akers was born circa 1768 at Buckingham Co., Virginia. He married Hannah Howard, daughter of William Howard and Hannah Psalter, on March 25, 1795 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Jonathan Akers died on December 11, 1827 at Franklin Co., Virginia.

     Blackburn Akers Sr. was born circa 1730/31. He died in 1796 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.

     Sadie Gray Yates was born on October 13, 1897 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,5 She married Frederick William "Fred" Tice, son of Andrew Jackson Tice and Mary Tobiatha Snuffer, on March 15, 1919 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ As of March 15, 1919,her married name was Tice.¹ Sadie Gray Yates died on April 29, 1929 at age 31.⁵

     Grace Olla "Gracie" Moran was buried at Restvale Cemetery, 7529 Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.² She CHECK - Mrs. Grace Moran Sowers, age 76, died at her home Thursday, December 1, 1977. Surviving are her husband, Vollie Sowers, Check; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Coates, Bumpass; three sons, Marvin Sowers, Arnold Sowers, both of Copper Hill; Norman Sowers, Check; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral was held Saturday, December 3, 1977, at 11:00 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, with Elder Roy Agee and Elder Lane Carter officiating. Interment in Salem Church Cemetery.³ She was born on November 8, 1901 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^2,1 She married Valentine T. "Vollie" Sowers, son of Eld. Frazier Tuggle Sowers and Flora Ann Martin, on February 28, 1920 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,3 As of February 28, 1920,her married name was Sowers.      Etta Gaye Conner was buried at Head of the River Cemetery (also known as Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery), Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ She was born on September 30, 1904 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ She died on December 9, 1904 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹

     William Howard was buried at Howard Cemetery, Rt. 600 to Rt. 177 to Piney Woods Road, first driveway on right, Childress, Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ He married Hannah Psalter at England. William Howard was born on April 14, 1727 at Yorkshire, England. He died on September 15, 1815 at Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 88.

     Hannah Psalter married William Howard at England. Hannah Psalter was buried at Howard Cemetery, Rt. 600 to Rt. 177 to Piney Woods Road, first driveway on right, Childress, Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Her married name was Howard. She was born in 1738 at England.¹ She died in 1810.¹

     Andrew Jackson Lucas was buried at Wilson Cemetery, Daniel's Run Road (Rt. 661), Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia.^2,3 He was born on June 18, 1843 at Riner, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^3,1 He married Priscilla Altizer, daughter of Elias Reed "Ale" Altizer and Rachel Dulaney, on July 14, 1864 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Andrew Jackson Lucas died on March 12, 1921 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 77.^2,3,1

     Priscilla Altizer was buried at Wilson Cemetery, Daniel's Run Road (Rt. 661), Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia.^2,3 She was born on February 17, 1844 at Simpsons, Floyd Co., Virginia; The Altizer book has a birth date of Feb 14, 1844.^2,3,1 She married Andrew Jackson Lucas, son of Wilson Lucas and Mary Catherine Webb, on July 14, 1864 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ As of July 14, 1864,her married name was Lucas.
