Her infant son and another son, Gene Bryant also preceded her in death. Mae was a retired health care provider having retired from Ryan’s Nursing Home in Amherst after many years of service. She was a loving, caring, devoted and dedicated mother whom leaves behind her three daughters, Sharon Mae Tyree of Amherst, Christine V. Wilkerson of Orlando, Fla., and Carolyn G. Lyon and husband, Lester, of Amherst; six sons, James L. Bryant and wife, Alice, Wesley M. Bryant and wife, Melanie, all of Amherst, Larry D. Bryant and wife, Mary, of Gladstone, Hayden A. Bryant and wife, Lena, of Buckingham, Robert D. Bryant and wife, Linda, of Lynchburg and William H. Bryant and wife, Becky, of Auburn, Fla; two brothers, Nathan Gowen and wife, Odell, of Lynchburg, and Edward Gowen of Gladstone; 38 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a very special, loving, caring and devoted friend, Newton Bailey of Gladstone. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Revs. James Williams and Don E. Carty officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Amherst or Gladstone Rescue Squads.
