C. Elmore, postmaster at Alderson, this county, died very suddenly about 11 o'clock AM on Tuesday last, 28 April 1890. He had been slightly sick for a few days preceeding, and his death, which it is supposed was caused by a neuralgia of the heart, was very unexpected. Mr. Elmore was a native of Craig Co., VA, and was about 42 years of age. He came to this county a number of years ago, and married a daughter of the late Samuel M. Clark. He has always been a consistent Republican, and in 1888 was nominated for the Legislature by that party, but declined the nomination. He was appointed postmaster at Alderson about a year ago, and filled the place acceptably. Mr. Elmore was a man of many good traits, and was much liked. He was buried in the cemetery at Union yesterday, Rev. F.A. Meade of the Episcopal church conducting the services. Mr. Elmore's life was insured, his friends will be glad to learn, by a reliable company, for $3,000.

Burial was in the Restvale Cemetery. on January 3, 1980.2 He I was trying my best to remember that name here a while back. I had never heard Eldridge Poff called by that name. My father, Sam Conner, cut timber and sawmilled with Kid (Eldridge) and his brother Raymond Poff. I grew up listening to those old sawmilling stories. They cut timber all over this part of the country and then faraway places like Woodbridge, Buchanan aand different places all around this side of Washington D.C. Many of the timber men of Floyd made their fortunes in Maryland timber. Many of the Poff's, if they were not farming, were in the sawmill business. My dad was always kind of in between farming and timber. Wade Poff used to relate the story of when my father got completely out of farming. It must have been in the late 40's and he had a beautiful patch of beans right above the old cemetery where I have my potato patch now. This land was bought from Mary Simpson Poff the day I was born in 1947. Wade related that just before they were ready to pick a blight hit and killed them all. After that Dad went to work at Radford Arsenal and eventually carpentry where he retired. One of my first jobs out of the Navy was working with him building houses in Roanoke. on January 14, 2005.16

Mary Jane "Mollie" Elmore was buried at West View Cemetery, New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.1,7,8 She Many of our readers will be saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Mollie Kelley, wife of Mr. R.W. Kelley, at her home in New Castle, on last Tuesday morning after an illness of a few weeks, from general breakdown. The shock, following the death of her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Woods, a few months ago, greatly affected her health and doubtless contributed to her death. Mrs. Kelley as a wife and mother was all that could be desired, ruling her household with love and patience. In her active years she wielded an influence for good in the community. She will be saddly missed, not only by the members of her family, but by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband and three children: Mrs. Moses, Mrs. Boitnott and Mr. P.G. Kelley, the latter of Roanoke, who arrived a day or two before her death. Also a number of relatives in the community. Funeral services were Thursday morning at 10 AM, the Rev. S.A. Morton of Sinking Creek conducting the services. Interment was made in West View Cemetery.8 She was born on December 20, 1841 at Botetourt Co. (now Craig Co.), Virginia.1,4,6,7 She married Robert Self on October 18, 1865 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.6,4,7 As of October 18, 1865,her married name was Self.
