The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. on February 5, 1991.1

He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and his brother and sister-in-law Earl and Mamie Vest of Floyd. He was the founder and former owner of Raye Vest Corporation and the Raye Vest Racing Team. Raye was a devoted and contributing member to many worthy causes in the community he loved. The family received friends at the Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service was held Monday, November 9, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Waldorf, with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens. on November 17, 2009.1

Earl graduated from Check High School in 1952 and was married to his high school sweetheart, Mamie Phillips, on March 8, 1958. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage together. Earl worked at the Norfolk & Western Railway Co. in Roanoke, Va. for 37 years and after retirement operated his cattle farm in Floyd at the Vest family home place. Left to to honor his memory is a special friend, Sedona Marguerite Hanks; sisters-in-law, Barbara Vest and Dorothy Vest; nieces, Rebecca Heafner Schlosser (Michael), Cathy Mabry Cloninger (Alan), and Virginia Hintze (Alan); nephews, Douglas Mabry (Tami), Michael Phillips (Barbara), Terry Phillips (Wanda), Jeffrey Phillips (Jill), Lewis Ray Vest Jr., and Raymond Vest; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. on January 8, 2022.6

A native of Floyd County, she was born August 9, 1938, the youngest child of the late Deputy Sheriff William Lewis Phillips and Cordova Quesenberry Phillips. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Morris Phillips and wife, Freeda; a sister, Clarah Vae Phillips; brother-in-law, Elwood Mabry, and infant brother and beloved great nephew, David Schlosser. Left to honor her memory are her best friend and husband of 56 years, Earl Stewart Vest. She is survived by a great love of her life, granddaughter, Sedona Marguerite Hanks who brought much joy and pride. Surviving are sister and brother-in-law, George and Ruth Heafner, Helen Mabry; sister-in-law, Barbara Vest. Mamie enjoyed a long and vibrant career in advertising/design/public relations in Roanoke. Her art career was launched with an internship at Delmar Studios in Charlotte. Returning to the area to marry the love of her life, she worked as a graphic artist for Roanoke Engraving followed by employment as Director of Art Services at Brand Edmonds Advertising. At age 28, she established her independent business, Mamie Vest Associates. In addition to her agency work, she served for several years as a legislative aide in both the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. She was appointed by Governor Linwood Holton to the Consumer Credit Study Commission; by Governor John Dalton to the Advisory Committee on Furnishing and Interpreting the Executive Mansion; and by Governor George Allen to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Museum of Natural History. She served as Chairman of the Roanoke City Arts Commission and was an active member of the Roanoke City Sigh Ordinance Committee. She also served as the Roanoke Valley Coordinator for the Virginia Bicentennial Commission. During the 1970's '80s and 90s, she created and directed advertising for over 80 local, state and federal Republican political campaigns. She received the American Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award in Roanoke for contributions to the industry and community, the first woman to receive the honor in Virginia. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd Sunday, November 22, 2015, followed by interment at Jacksonville Cemetery. on November 21, 2015.3

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 1997 at Lotz Roanoke Chapel. The Rev. Charles Hoffler will officiate. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke. on April 23, 1997.4

Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on January 31, 1992.1

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis William Crouch; sisters, Birtie, Bessie, Vida, and Anna Rene; and brothers, Allen, Otis, Elliot, and Sherman. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Christine Vest; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Wilson Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Agee officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Maberry Funeral Home.
