Born July 10, 1918, at Floyd County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles M. Coats and Monie R. Poff. Mrs. Epperly was a nurses aid at the Fraziers Nursing Home. Fayetteville, a member of the Cottonhill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur H. Epperly; a daughter, Shelby Jane Pugh. Survivors include five sons, Thomas Henry Epperly of Huntington, George Lee Epperly of Fayetteville, Robert David Epperly of Route 1, Fayetteville, Fred Perry of Route 2, Fayetteville, and Don Pugh of Roanoke, Va; two daughters, Linda Kiser of Atlanta, Ga., and Lavonne Starnes of Roanoke, Va; two brothers, Jim Coates of Copper Hill, Va. and Junior Coates of Richmond, Va; two sisters, Ruby Alvord of Richmond, Va. and Evie Radford of Copper Hill, Va; ll grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. on November 13, 1995.⁶

Charles Boland Gray Charles Boland Gray, age 83, of Wheeler, died at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 after a short battle with lung cancer, with family by his side. Charles was born on July 17, 1930, in Kimball, WV, the son of Howard Lee and Allie Marie (Board) Gray. He married Mary Imajean Scalf on July 27, 1951 at the Naval Air Station in Oceana, VA. After 52 years of marriage Mary passed on June 30, 2003. Charles retired from the Navy after 22 years of service with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer-2. From there he went on to work for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital retiring after 27 years. He is a member of the USS Kitty Hawk Veterans Assoc., and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He enjoyed putting on magic shows, researching his family history, and discussing politics. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Howard Lee Gray, sister; Kathryn Waller, and one great grandson Zachary Gordon Nahsohn. Charles is survived by his five daughters; Angela Gray-Couture of Lemon Grove, CA, Connie Gray of Temecula, CA, Kathy (Lee) Aland of Chula Vista, CA, Elizabeth (Roger) Raycraft of Wheeler, MI, and Jennifer (Rashid) Al-Turkistani of McKinney, TX. He is also survived by his 23 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca on Friday, December 6th, from 5-7 pm. San Diego services will be Friday, December 13th at the LDS Stake Center 8472 Blossom Lane, Lemon Grove, Ca 91945. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruster and Elizabeth Shelor; sister and brotherin-law, Mary Elizabeth and Gorden Pilson; sister, Virginia Smith; brother, Charles Shelor. He served in the Army from May 1952 to May 1954 during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Ileda Shelor; daughters, Belva Shelor, Melva Shelor; brother and sistersin-law, Lewis and Isabel Shelor, Francis Shelor; brother-in-law, Jack Smith; mother-in-law, Eula W. Martin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane and Richard Shank, Louise and Thomas Hall, Mary and W.B. Nolen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Pat Blackwell, Kenneth and Kathy Blackwell; stepbrothers-in-law, Fred Quesenberry and Eugene Quesenberry; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Floyd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gregory, the Rev. Robert Blackwell, and the Rev. Thomas Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Floyd County Rescue P.O. Box 257, Floyd, Va. 24091 or Red Oak Grove Cemetery, c/o Grant Belcher, 799 Huckleberry Ridge Road, NE, Floyd, Va. 24091. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home. on March 30, 2007.²
