He was a decorated WWII Army Air Corp veteran, serving two tours of duty in the 8th and 14th Air Forces. He flew with the 8th Air Force, 306th B-17 Bomb-group, 423rd Squadron during 35 long range missions over Germany, Belgium and France, including two single day bomb missions over the beaches of Normandy on the 6th| of June, 1944. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross, 3 Oak Leaf Cluster and the U.S. Air Medal. Following the completion of his European tour with the 8th Air Force in July of 1944, he then volunteered and joined the 14th Air Force in the Asia-Pacific theatre where he flew innumerable missions transporting gasoline over the infamous Himalayan "Hump" from India to China in C-47's until the end of the war. Attending college, post-war under the GI bill, he graduated with a degree in accounting and remained active as an accountant until his untimely passing. He was a Charter member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where he was a trustee. He was a kind, gently man who will be deeply missed by all of the lives that he touched He is survived by his wife, Lorene Lucas Hodges; brothers, Hubert Hodges, Paul Hodges; sister, Jane Lane; sons, Daniel Hodges, M.D. of Roanoke and Lafayette, La., and Larry Marsh of Salem; and daughter, Donna Mills of Roanoke. Mosby's grandchildren include Camille, Camilla and Daniel Hodges of Roanoke, Ians Mills of Salem, Nathaniel Marsh of Dallas, Texas, and Larry D. Marsh of Salem. Graveside services will be conducted at Sherwood Memorial Park. on April 25, 2004.6

Helen Lucille Poff Helen Poff Williams, 93, of Princeton, West Virginia formerly of Bluewell, West Virginia, daughter of the late, Herbert B. Poff and Carrie Anderson Poff passed away on Thursday, December 04, 2019 at the residence of her daughter. Helen was born in Thorpe, West Virginia on Wednesday, August 04, 1926.
Helen was a graduate of Gary High School, class of 1945. She moved to Bluewell, West Virginia in 1951. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Punk” Williams in 1985; her baby twin sister, Ellen Poff and brother, Harless “Hambone” Poff. Helen is survived by daughter, Sue Ellen Hatcher and husband Bill of Princeton, West Virginia with whom she made her home; two sons, David Williams and wife Kathy of Beaufort, South Carolina and Phillip Williams and wife Paula of Duluth, Georgia. Four grandchildren Stephanie Carr, Nicholas Kidd, Chris Williams and Matthew Williams. Six great grandchildren; three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. One special niece Linda Poff and several cousins. Helen was a member of Bluewell United Methodist Church and was a member of the Loyalettes Sunday School class. She was also involved in Laura Wheeler Circle and the XYZ senior club. Helen was a charter member and past matron of the Bramwell Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #158. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia where Chris Williams, Matthew Williams, Jonathan Williams, Michael Williams, Scott Carr and Nick Kidd will be serving as pallbearers.1 She was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,3 Her married name was Williams.1 She married Clarence Edgar Williams.1,4 Helen Lucille Poff was born on August 4, 1926 at Thorpe, McDowell Co., West Virginia.1 She died on December 4, 2019 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 93.1

He worked at Montgomery Wards as a salesman and retired from Perry Food Brokerage Company as a salesman. Mr. Poff was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church, Gleaners Sunday School Class, Bramwell Masonic Lodge and the American Legion and VFW. Harless had been a resident of Bluewell for most of his life. Survivors include: His wife of the past 59 years, Mary Ann Scott Poff of Bluewell; daughter: Linda Poff of Princeton; sister: Helen Williams of Bluewell; nephews: David Williams of Beaufort, S.C., Phillip Williams of Duluth, Ga; niece: Sue Ellen Hatcher of Princeton; several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bluewell United Methodist Church in Bluewell with the Rev. Sam Cale III and the Rev. D. Homer Stewart officiating the service. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. Serving as active pallbearers will be Phillip Williams, David Williams, Jason Faw, David McKinney, Jim Faw, George Corvin and Bruce Runyon. She later worked in the company store in Wilcoe, where she met the love of her life, the late Harless “Hambone” Poff. The two were married and moved to Bluewell. Mary Ann continued to serve the public by working at the J.C. Penney Company in Bluefield until long-term illnesses forced her to retire. She was a lifelong member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church and the Loyalettes Sunday School Class. She also sang in the church choir and was a prayer line member. Survivors: Daughter, Linda Poff of Bluewell with whom she made her home; sister-in-law, Helen Williams of Bluewell; nephews, David Williams and wife Kathy of Beaufort, S.C., Phillip Williams and wife Paula of Duluth, Ga; niece, Sue Ellen Hatcher and husband Bill of Princeton; cousin, Karen Alley and husband Al of Penn Laird, Va; extra special caregivers, Liz Sexton of Bluewell, Grace Conley of Montcalm; extraordinary loving dog, “Sammy.” Cryptside services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell with the Reverend Steve Rector and the Reverend D. Homer Stuart officiating. Entombment will follow. on July 30, 2011.3

She was the wife of the late Ernest T. (Pinky) Smith. She was born in Nelson County, the daughter of the late John Morgan and Emma Jane Smoot Williams. She was retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp. and was a member of First Southern Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by one son Malvin Terrell Smith. She is survived by one son, Ernest T. (Tommy) Smith of Lynchburg; two daughters, Mr. E. D. (Dorothy) Fitzgerald of Richmond and Mrs. D. E. (Lois) McFaden of Lynchburg; one brother Ernest R. (Jack) Williams, and a loving sister-in-law, Eula Cumbie Williams, both of Madison Heights; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Robert C. Herb. The family will receive friends at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel today from 7 to 8:30 plm. and at other times at the home of her daughter at 39 Homewood Drive. The family requests memorials be made to First Southern Methodist Church. on October 1, 1986.2

Surviving are son Thomas Joseph 'TJ' Conner, of Westminster, brother Stephen Dobrosielski and wife Mary Myron of Pittsburgh, sisters Susan Bashore of Halifax, PA, and Catherine Engle and husband Jeffrey of Halifax, PA.
