Mr. Smith came to Roanoke from his home in Floyd county last November a for special treatment, having been fret stricken with paralysis nearly two years ago. He was well known in Roanoke, having been connected with the Roanoke Police Department for many years, serving under Mayors Evans, McClellan, Jones and Woods. Some ten years he returned to his farm Locust Grove where he resided until coming to Roanoke late last fall. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Smith; two brothers, John W. Smith, of Floyd County; Jabez Smith, of Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. James W. Simpson, of Missouri. The remains will be taken this morning to the Smith home at Locust Grove the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at Smith's Chapel and interment will be in the family burial plot adjoining the country churchyard (He was actually buried in Fair View Cemetery). The remains will be accompanied to Floyd by Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. George S. Jack, Misses Bonnie and Audrey Jack, and Miss Berta Conner. on February 26, 1918.9
