Kintner M.D. author of "A Family History and Tour Guide of Reuel B. Prichett and Ella Poff", Jonathan Poff was born about 1780. His name appeared on the tax records in 1798 of Augusta Co., Virginia. Chalkley records (2:329) show that Jonathan Poff and Mary Hartshough married on Jan 10, 1797. She was the daughter of Englebert Hartshough. His name was on the tax rolls of Montgomery Co. until he purchased land in Franklin Co. in 1821. This property was located at the headwaters of the Pigg River. This is on the edge of the plateau near the Floyd and Franklin Co. line west of Rocky Mount, Virginia. He was born circa September 17, 1777 at Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania.5 He married Mary "Polly" Hartsough on January 10, 1798 at Augusta Co., Virginia.6,4,5 Jonathan "John" Poff left a will on March 26, 1845 at Franklin Co., Virginia; Jonathan's will was probated on October 6, 1845 which means he most likely died in September of 1845. I JOHN POFF of the County of Franklin and State of Virginia: do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say: 1st I give to my wife MARY POFF all of my property both real and personal, for and during the time of her natural life, for her to dispose of as she may think best at her decease. 2ndly I desire that my wife MARY POFF pay my just debts as soon as she possibly can, after my decease out of any property that I my (as written) leave, that she can possibly keep house without, and the proceed, of my plantation. And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend JOHN LONG my Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others or former wills by me heretofore made. She moved to Glendive, Montana in 1960 and back to Floyd in 1980 and returned to Roanoke in 1982. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Angie W. and Benjamin B. Albert, Jr. of Alexandria; a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel C. and Josephine M. Wilson of Roanoke; five granddaughters, two grandsons, three great-grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. V. Truman Jordahl with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park Abby. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Lotz Roanoke Chapel. on March 3, 1991.3

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tommy Ballard; a daughter, Nancy Atkins and her husband Jim Atkins of Atlanta, Ga; a daughter, Martha Ballard of Salem; granddaughters, Debbie Dixon and her husband, Patrick of Roanoke and Kathy Sego and her husband, Derek of Watkinsville, Ga; great-grandchildren, Randy and Tina Sego, Abby and Ross Dixon. She is also survived by a sister, Lura Dean Stone and her husband, Dillard of Christiansburg; a brother, Alvin Vest and his wife, Helen of Salem; and a brother-in-law, Hubert Averette of Christiansburg. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Ellen's loving niece, Gwen Dean Plymale and her faithful neighbor, Erica Mabry. on February 14, 2003.6
