He was a native of Salem since 1941 and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was born on Bent Mountain and came to Roanoke at age 14 and went to work at the American Iron and Bridge Works. Later he was employed by the Grumman Corporation for 55 years. Bill loved and was devoted to his work and retired at age 75. Interment at his wife's side will follow at Sherwood Memorial park. on March 27, 2001.1

Preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart of 66 years, Irvin Simmons Agnew; parents Walter Irving and Rachel Simpson King; and son Randy Agnew. Left to cherish her memory: daughter Connie Gray (Ken); son Barry Agnew (Elizabeth); sister Peggy Adkins; sister-in-law Eleanor Peverall; grandchildren Brian Settles (Kimberly), Kevin Settles, Nikki Agnew, Todd Agnew (Keisha), Philip Agnew (Emily), Chloe Agnew and Josh Agnew; eight great-grandchildren. “Jen” was born on January 31, 1924. Her parents were founding members of Roanoke First Church of the Nazarene where she was an active member since childhood. She held numerous leadership roles at Morningside, Jackson, Rescue Mission and was an Avon representative for 51 years. Known by her grandchildren as MamaJen, her first priority was her family. There was no excuse for missing Sunday dinners and you better go to church. She was truly amazing as a caregiver to family, friends and neighbors. She gave praise and witnessed for Jesus lovingly and firm with no apologies in her life, words and actions.
