     Sarah A. E. Ridgeway was born in March, 1835 at Virginia. She married Peter H. Poff, son of Anthony Poff and Sarah "Sally" Wilson, on August 29, 1853 at Floyd Co., Virginia.2 As of August 29, 1853,her married name was Poff. Sarah A. E. Ridgeway died on January 4, 1910 at Glenvar, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 74.3 She Mrs. Sarah E. Poff died 1-4-1910 at the home of her Son W. A. Poff of Glenvar, Virginia. Mrs. Poff was well known here, having lived here for some time. She is a very highly esteemed old lady and loved by all that knew her. She had been a consistent and loved member of the M. E. Church for nearly 50 years.
She was about 73 years old and had enjoyed good health most all her life. Her death was very suddenly, was going up a stairway when she sank down and expired in a few moments. Her remains were brought back to Floyd County near Huffville, for burial. Her Husband had preceded her to the spirit world some 36 years and waiting for her to come and join him where there will be on more sad parting. We extend sympathies to the bereaved ones. A Loved One. on February 10, 1910.3

MSgt. James Eddie Tolbert Sr., United States Air Force, of Boones Mill, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009. He was born on December 14, 1931, in Jenkinjones , W.Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lafayette and Sarah Nettie Marshall Tolbert ; and a sister, Mary Lou Tolbert Hall, of Christiansburg, Va. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Marie Hall Tolbert ; a daughter, Cathy Perry, of Warrenton, Va; two sons, James Eddie Jr., of Fredericksburg, Va., and Carl Ray, of Stafford, Va; two granddaughters, Crystal Pulley and her husband, Andy, of Glade Hill, Va., and Amanda Perry, of Midland, Va; one great-grandson, Gavin Andrew Pulley; and a new great-granddaughter born November 17, 2009, Kendall Brooke Pulley. He graduated from Gary High School, Gary, W.Va., in 1950, and entered the United States Air Force on March 23, 1951. After he served 20 years and eight days, he retired on April 1, 1971. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Okinawa and two tours in Korea. Nine of his 20 years were with the Defense Atomic Support Agency in Washington, D.C. as a top secret control officer. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a mail clerk at the Woodbridge, Va. Post Office for 20 years, retiring on October 3, 1992. He lived in Dale City, Va. for 35 years. Some of the awards James received was the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. Military Honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion #127. on November 22, 2009.2

     Elder Henry Valentine Cole was buried at Cole Cemetery, off of Goff Road NE, Little River, Floyd Co., Virginia.8,1,3,7 He was born on June 7, 1853 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,3,7 He married Tempaline "Tempy" Lawrence, daughter of William Lawrence and Sarah Boothe, on October 16, 1877 at Floyd Co., Virginia.8,10,2,1,3,7 Elder Henry Valentine Cole died on December 13, 1935 at Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 82; The Marion Thomas Hall funeral records and his gravestone have a death date of Dec 12, 1935.8,6,7 He Elder Valentine Cole, 82 died suddenly at his home near Locust Grove yesterday afternoon. He was a son of the late Fleming and Abigail Vest Cole, who were among the early settlers of this county, and a great great grandson of Joseph Cole, a soldier of the Revolutionary war. Mr. Cole was married in 1878 to Miss Temty Lawrence, who survives, they having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1928. He was ordained a minister in the Old School Primitive Baptist Church 40 years ago, but had been preaching several years before that. He had served as Pastor of the churches of Laurel Creek, Valley View, County Line, Salem, and other places. He organized and was president of the Locust Grove Telephone Company, and for many years he was a school teacher of the county, a justice of the peace, and land assessor. Surviving besides his wife are four sons: Shirley of Florida, Ernest of Elliston, Raymond of Forest, and Schuyler, Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the home, conducted by Elder Samuel Moran. Burial will be in the family burying ground. SOURCE: This was found in an old scrap book.
