Adams St. was found at his home at 5 o'clock this morning and a preliminary report later in the day said that his death may have been caused by carbolic acid poisoning. Tipton County Coroner Phil Nichols said that the body of Mr. Stephens was found by his son, Leo Stephens, Jr. The time of death was fixed at between 3 and 4 am. Coroner Nichols said that an empty four-ounce bottle labeled carbolic acid was found nearby and that there were some acid burns around Mr. Stephens mouth. It was reported that Mr. Stephens had been ill and despondent since the death of his wife on April 22. A final verdict in the case is to be announced by Coroner Nichols when results of an autopsy are received, he said. Mr. Stephens was born in Howard county in the village of Guy to Jacob and Flora Bogue Stephens. He married Cecil Mills Jan. 30, 1920. He farmed near Normada for several years before moving to Tipton. He was a fence building until his retirement. He is survived by one son, Leo Stephens, Jr., at home; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Cowgill and Miss Marjorie Stephens, both of Kokomo, and 13 grand and great grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery. on May 9, 1973.8 He died on May 9, 1973 at Tipton Township, Tipton Co., Indiana, at age 74.12,4,8

R. 5, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Tipton County Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health for several years and had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday night. The deceased was born July 23, 1888, in Hamilton County, the son of George and Elnora (Swing) Carlile. He was married April 1, 1907, to Levona Sevens, who survives. The couple had spent all of their married life in Taylor Township. Mr. Carlile, a member of the Mount Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church, was engaged in farming. Surviving with the widow are five children, Mrs. Dorothy Graf and Roscoe, both of Sharpsville R. R. 2; Mrs. Berniece Robertson of Galveston R. R. 2, and Robert and Francis, both of Kokomo; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ola Baden, of Hammond; Mrs. Jane Norris, of Tipton, and Mrs. Gladys Caylor, of Kokomo; four brothers, Everett, of Arcadia; Earl, of Elwood, Frank, of Kokomo, and Lewis, of Anderson, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mount Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. Gordon Goodman and the Rev. Robert Lee officiating. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery. The body will be removed from the Mast and Pickett Funeral Home in Greentown to the residence, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday. on December 24, 1956.6

Zion Free Methodist, for many decades. Bernice was also active with Meals on Wheels for Howard County for many years, taking hot meals to those homebound. She served as Coordinator for Reach to Recovery in Howard County, a program offered through the American Cancer Society. As a two-time cancer survivor, she gave back to others that so desperately needed encouragement during their time of need. Surviving family include her children, Judith Ann (Max) Sullivan, Galveston; John (Eva) Robertson, Wilmette, IL; David (Pauline) Robertson, Lemont, IL; and Toney Robertson, Galveston. Surviving grandchildren are Gina Chambers, Mark (Tricia) Sullivan, Janae Sullivan, Hans (Gabby) Robertson, Nina (Jubran) Robertson, Lynsey (Michael) Panek, Ariana (Kyle) Edwards, and Alex Robertson. Surviving great grandchildren include, Blaine (Jasmine) Chambers, Halle (Ian) Muter, Kelsey Sullivan, Derek Sullivan, Whitney Wilkinson, Henry Robertson, Adalynn McKinney, Heidi Robertson, George Panek and Leo Kanaan Robertson. She is also survived by great great grandchildren, Lillian Wilkinson-Bogan and Elora Chambers. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, siblings, Roscoe, Robert and Francis Carlile and Dorothy Graf. Private family funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Jack Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Galveston Cemetery. on January 26, 2021.3

He was preceded in death by a son, grandson and brother. Services are noon Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St The Rev. Kenneth Spangler will officiate. He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Greentown to Herman and Virgie Stephens. He married Marjory Weaver in 1939; she preceded him in death in 1992. Survivors include a son, Bob Stephens, of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren, Troy Stephens, of Ashland, MO; Brenda Kurtz, of Lima, OH; and Barbara Stephens, of Delphos, OH; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Calling is Tuesday, June 14, 2011, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. A service will be held at the mortuary on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ron Burns officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Huntington County. on June 13, 2011.5

The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Essling Funeral Home, La Porte, with Rev. Rod Nielsen officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, La Porte. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The body was removed to the S. S. Edwards funeral home in Windfall and will be returned to the late home Tuesday morning where friends may call. Services will be held at the Mount Zion Wesleyan church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning with Rev. Carroll Rouch, pastor, assisted by Rev. R. J. Otis of Peru and Rev. James Hickman of Hemlock, assisting. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery. Mr. Howell was born March 17, 1900, in Windfall, the son of Charles and Nettie (Benson) Howell. He married Dorothy Carlisle of near Hemlock and the couple are parents of four sons: Kenneth, age l4; Darell, age 12; Verlin, age 10; and Ronnie Lee, age 1. Also surviving are the parents and two sisters, Mrs. Walter McClish of Windfall and Mrs. Delbert Fennell, near Windfall. An aunt, Mrs. Kenneth Kennedy, resides in Pennsylvania. Mr. Howell was a hard working young man and was well known and respected throughout the Windfall community. His untimely death is mourned by many friends. on May 17, 1943.4
