     Eugene Edward "Gene" Hale was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁷ He was born on January 28, 1939 at Roanoke, Virginia.^5,7 He died on July 14, 2015 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 76.^6,7 He Eugene (Gene) Edward Hale, 76, a veteran of the United States Army and a longtime resident of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, 14 Jul 2015, peacefully in his sleep. His spirit is carried on by his six surviving siblings and spouse, Jerry and Pat Hale, Shirley Bowles, Ann Jordan, Gary and Susan Hale, Harry and Joyce Hale, Linda and Barry Parker; numerous nephews and nieces and extended family and friends. Gene loved his family and his own happiness was derived from them. His family and friends were truly blessed to be touched by his quiet, kind presence and our lives would be enriched should we take lesson from his ability to keep life simple. Through Gene's character we observed the significance of Never speak an unkind word; Be willing to offer a helping hand; Always "offer" food and a cold beverage to visitors (never let it be refused!); Enjoy the pleasure of front porch sittin' and Experience the good, clean humor and entertainment in old western movies, The Peanuts and Archie comic books. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Wilson and Elise Aldridge Hale. Gene is now reunited with them and the brothers and sisters who preceded him in passing. Oh, what a time he will have with Sarah, Frank (Duna), Bill and Richard! On July 14, 2015.⁶

Shirley Rebecca Hale died on March 25, 2023 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 80.³ She Shirley Rebecca Hale Bowles, 80, of Roanoke, Va. passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was born on July 8, 1942, in Floyd County, Va., a daughter of the late Frank Wilson and Elsie Aldridge Hale. Shirley was also predeceased by her husband, Joe David "J.D." Bowles. Surviving are her daughter, Becky (Craig) Dalglish; her son, Ron (Karen) Bowles; grandsons, Dawson Bowles, Bryton Dalglish, and Seth Bowles; and stepgrandson, Brendan Dalglish. Shirley thrived at taking care of others and started at a young age as the oldest sister of 10 siblings. Family, friends, and neighbors liked to gather at her dining room table; drawn to her advice, resourcefulness and home cooked meals. She loved animals and especially felines. Her home address was well known in the homeless cat community. Her door was a gateway to food and a warm bed for homeless kitties. Motherhood seemed her "super-power" until Mama morphed into Granny. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. The "boys," along with great-nephew, Nicholas Jordan, filled her heart and home with love and laughter. Our Mama and Granny will be deeply missed. The core of our family, advisor and protector leaves us with a legacy of love and example of strength and tenacity. A private graveside service was previously held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on April 2, 2023.³

     Shelby Ann Hale was born on July 23, 1945 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^6,2 She married Melvin Thomas "Tommy" Jordan Sr. on October 18, 1965 at South Carolina.^2,7 As of October 18, 1965,her married name was Jordan. Shelby Ann Hale died on May 28, 2016 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 70.² She Shelby Ann Hale Jordan, 70, of Troutville, died suddenly Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Ann was born July 23, 1945, and lived in Botetourt since 1979. She was the daughter of the late Frank Wilson and Elsie Aldridge Hale. Ann loved animals and took in strays from all over. If the stray was ill, she would nurse it back to health. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin T. "Tommy" Jordan Sr; brothers and sister, Gene, Sarah, Frank, Bill, and Richard. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin T. Jr. and Dawn Jordan of Roanoke; grandson, Nicholas Jordan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Pat Hale, Gary and Susan Hale, and Harry and Joyce Hale; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Bowles, and Linda and Barry Parker; numerous nephews and nieces. on June 5, 2016.²

     Thomas Monroe Yeatts was buried at Jacksonville Burial Ground, Rt. 8, 0.25 miles south of Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.^5,1 He Thomas Yeatts was enlisted in Company H, 21st Virginia Infantry Regiment on April 20, 1864 by Captain Farmer. He was sixteen years of age at the time of his enlistment. On September 23, 1864 he was captured by General Sheridan's forces at Strasburg and sent as a prisoner of war to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. He was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland on September 30, 1864 arriving there on October 3, 1864. On October 16, 1864 he was released from prison on joining the United States Service.¹ He was born on November 3, 1847 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.¹ He married Mary Elizabeth Ingram, daughter of Elkanah Turner "Elkany" Ingram and Matilda Ann Willis, on January 14, 1875 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^4,1 Thomas Monroe Yeatts died on March 10, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 79.¹
