He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 and served his country as a payroll officer near the end of World War II. He was known as a kind, gentle, humble, and compassionate man who from a child, had love for God. He and Ramona opened their home regularly to all for meals, nights, and meetings of worship and praise to God. His and Mom's love for God and for each other has been a wonderful example for the family and all who knew them. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McCoy Funeral Home, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 prior to the service that will begin at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, Blacksburg, Va. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. on June 6, 2019.5

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred T. Whitt, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Pace Whitt; and sisters, Betty Wilson of Springfield, and Evelyn Schilling of Roanoke. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Bettye P. Whitt; son, Tim Whitt; and daughter, Pam Whitt of Roanoke; along with several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to friends, Larry and Annette Connor and James McCallum and Betty Tate; for their devoted friendship and support. Bud was a long time employee of The Roanoke Times and served as Secretary Treasure of Local Union #60 during his tenure there. He continued to work and retired from Advance Auto Parts and The American Red Cross, respectively. Bud was an avid golf enthusiast and never missed an opportunity to play or watch the game. As a member of the Moose Lodge #284, he was quick to pick up the game with his many friends at the Lodge or golf vacations to Myrtle Beach. His wife and children wish to thank the Nursing, CNA, and Therapeutic Staffs at Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on January 4, 2015.3

     Carol Sue Poff Carol Short, 77, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Short; parents, Marvin and Dorothy Poff; three brothers, Mike, Robin, and Kevin; two sisters, Dreama and Lynn; grandson, Michael Trail; and son-in-law, Billy Cofer. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed. Family left to cherish her memory include her children, Russell Short and wife Sharon, Tonja Cofer, and Abbie Trail and husband George; sister, Debi Overstreet and husband Sam; grandchildren, Zach Cofer and wife Kelli, Tony and Casey Trail, and Chelsea and Mackenzie Graham; great-grandchild, Zaida Cofer; special friend, Peggy Booth; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 6 until 8 pm at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service to honor Carol's life will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 10 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jay Robinette officiating. Burial will follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Fintel, Liz, and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center and to the nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Hospice.9 She was buried at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Cloverdale, Botetourt Co., Virginia.9 She was born on April 8, 1939 at Virginia.2 She married Thomas Powell "Red Rocket" Short on October 17, 1960.2,1,9 As of October 17, 1960,her married name was Short. Dreama enjoyed her many hobbies including cross stitching, doll collecting, and stamp collecting. She was a wonderful mother, maw-maw, and sister who was lovingly devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by everyone. Interment will follow at Old Dominion Cemetery. on May 17, 2011.6
