Musick will officiate. Burial will be in the Gamoca cemetery with B.C.Hooper mortuary of Montgomery in charge. Surviving are her husband, Benjamin F. Hudnall; four daughters, Mrs. Noyes Wyatt, Cedar Grove; Mrs. Bessie Kidd of Zela; Mrs. Georgia Ward and Mrs. Mary Trent both of Gauley Bridge: four sons; Thomas C. of Gamoca, William B. of Jodie, Leslie A. of Gauley Bridge and John C. of Mammoth; a sister Mrs. Alice Morris of Glasgow, 36 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. O. Settle of Chelyan. Other survivors are two sons, Hubert Poff of Washington and Charles Poff of Atmar, Ala; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Clements of Charleston and Mrs. Rosa Owens of Hopewell. Va; three brothers, Philip Poff of Charleston, John Poff of Acme and W. M. Poff of Shadyside, O; and five grandchildren. The body is at the Pryor mortuary at East Bank pending funeral arrangements. on July 12, 1935.3

Surviving Mr. Poff are one sister, Mrs. Rose Owens of Hopewell, Va., and two brothers, John Poff of Acme and William Poff of Shady Side, O. on September 11, 1939.7

     Jesse Hall was buried at Barnett Cemetery, Rt. 637, on Sisson Farm in the middle of the dairy farm, Montgomery Co., Virginia.3 He was born on March 22, 1760 at Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island.3,4 He Jesse enlisted at the beginning of the Revolutionary War in the New York Militia on February 1776 under Capt. Nathan Pierce in Dutchess Co., and his brother, Asa, enlisted March 2, 1776. He was in the battles of Long Island, White Plains, and at the capture of the British General Burgoyne at Ticonderoga. (See Over the Mountain Men, page 64, by Anne Lowry Worrell). (DAR page 4) in February, 1776.4 He married Phebe Wilbur circa 1780 at Dutchess Co., New York.4 Jesse Hall Jesse obtained a land grant for his service and moved to Montgomery Co., Virginia and his brother Asa soon followed. Jesse Hall and Asa, his brother, came from New York to Roanoke Valley in Virginia about 1790. They acquired land on the North Fork of Roanoke by purchase and by grant, Asa Hall 253 acres from James Bryan and Mary, 250 acres from Robert Foster and Hannah, 70, 250 and 45 acres on Keeney's Run by entry; Jesse 253 acres from Thomas Wilson. Jesse Hall moved to South Fork and lived near Allegheny Springs. in 1789.4 He On August 6, 1792, Hugh Crockett sold to Jesse Hall 45 acres on both sides of South Folk of the Roanoke River on August 6, 1792.4 He Thomas and Elizabeth Wilson sold to Jesse Hall, 253 acres of North Fork of the Roanoke River on February 24, 1795.4 He Jesse Hall and Phebe his wife sold to James Bryan, 253 acres on south branch of North Fork of Roanoke River on December 3, 1796.4 He Granted 210 acres in Montgomery Co. on the waters of Stoney Creek a branch of Roanoke adjacent to the land of Picklesimer and Morris grant 57, page 97. on August 20, 1800.4 He Jesse Hall and his wife Phebe of Montgomery Co. to Charles G. Lewis, 194 acres both sides south fork Roan oak adj. William Stapleton & Luke Muncy on October 3, 1807.5 He Jesse Hall and Asa Hall paid $100.00 for 100 acres on the south waters of the North Folk of Roanoke and adjoining Thomas Jewell's land on January 1, 1827.4 He Congress granted pensions to Jesse at age 72, and his brother Asa, at age 74. on June 17, 1833.4 He left a will on August 28, 1848 at Montgomery Co., Virginia; Jesse died at age 88 in Montgomery Co., Virginia, his will dated Aug 28, 1848, is recorded in Will Book 8, pg 7 in the Montgomery Co., Virginia, County Clerks Office, and he names his children as follows: Freeburn, David, John, Charles, heirs of daughter Phebe Morris, deceased; Susannah McNeely, Lydia Martin and Polly Rumburg. It was presented in court Nov 6, 1848.4






He died on October 2, 1848 at Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 88; The date of Aug 8, 1848, which is on his gravestone is actually the date of his will.3,4,6 He Jesse Hall, pensioner, died Oct 2, 1848, leaving children Freeburn Hall, David Hall, John Hall, Charles Hall, Susanna McNeely, Lydia Martin and Polly Rumburg on March 5, 1849.6
