He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Chase County to Orrin F. and Kate Gladys (Gerken) Prior. The family moved to a farm northwest of Hayes County. He graduated from Wauneta High School in 1938. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year. He worked in Denver, Colo. On May 21, 1942, he married Lila V. Adamson of Wauneta. The couple moved to the family farm in July 1942 to help with harvest. In 1952, the couple purchased a farm equipment dealership in Imperial. They operated it until 1975. He served on school boards for the Star School in Hamlet, the Imperial Grade and Chase County High schools and the board of trustees for York College in York. He was also active in civic affairs, serving on the city council. He was a member of the Toastmasters and the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Kate; and two brothers, Gordon G. and Kenneth B. Survivors include his wife, Lila of Imperial; one son, Merlin Rex and wife, Janet Prior of Imperial; two daughters, Janeta Kay and husband, Nelson Fong of Underwood, Iowa and Marcia Rae and husband, Lynn Prior-Miller of Ames, Iowa; one sister, Wyona Jean Hollinger of Grand Junction, Colo;13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services are Monday, 10:30 a.m. MST at the Wauneta Church of Christ with the Rev. Max Towell officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. Visitation will be Sunday, 2-6 p.m. MST at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial. A memorial has been established. Liewer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on January 20, 2004.1

Overton, a resident of Clay Center for the past several years, who died Monday at Hastings, were held from the Christian church Wednesday morning with the Rev. Ronald Burt officiating. Mr. Overton was born in Iowa; had lived on a farm in this vicinity; had operated restaurants in Nelson and Edgar at one time or another. He wae 80 years of age at the time of his death. The survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lora Basey, Greeley Colo., and Mrs. Carrie Young of Grand Junction, Colo; and one son, Clarence of Alliance. Burial was made in the Edgar cemetery with the McLaughlin Funeral Home in charge. on December 16, 1954.3

Mr. Basey graduated from Clay Center High School in Nebraska in 1937. His family moved to Colorado shortly after that. He worked at Henry Wagner Market in Greeley prior to his military service in World War II. He trained at Camp Barkley in Abilene, Texas, and served in the European Theater in a Medical Support Unit. Upon his discharge, he returned to Greeley and worked as a meat cutter at the Henry Wagner Market. After several years as a route delivery driver, he joined the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He retired in 1983. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Greeley joining in 1937. He was past commander of the American Legion Post No. 18 and a member of the 40 & 8 and was honored last year as a 60-year member of the American Legion. He also belonged to the Evans VFW 6624. Mr. Basey died Saturday at North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley. Survivors: His wife, Norma Basey of Greeley; a daughter, Joyce B. and husband Robert Coalson of Indianapolis, Ind; a son, James L. and wife Pamela Basey of Denver; a brother, Dale and wife Jeanne Basey of Longmont; three grandchildren, Angela and husband John Dellasalle of Denver, Amy and husband Jan-Willem van den Dijssel of Geneva, Switzerland, and Jonathan Coalson of Raleigh, N.C; and four great-grandchildren, Spencer and Julia Dellasalle and Sofia and Emma van de Dijssel. Preceded in death by: a brother, Melvin; and sisters, Erma and Lila. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Greeley. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
