William Riley "Billy" Poff was buried at Head of the River Cemetery (also known as Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery), Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.9,7,8,10 He William Riley Poff, 83, was discovered dead on a plantation road near his home, late Sunday afternoon Nov. 4th. According to Mrs. Mona Coates, a daughter, he left home about 3 p.m. to visit some traps he had set. Becoming anxious over his long absence, neighbors and friends began a search, finding him lying in the middle of the plantation road. Sherriff Ora Williams and Deputy W. M. Phillips visited the scene. The body was brought here and examined by Dr. F. C. Bedsaul, who said it was apparent he had died from a heart ailment. Surviving are three daughters and one son. Mrs. C. M. Coates, Mrs. L. A. Holland, Mrs. Joseph Nichols, Copper Hill; Lemuel I. Poff, New Jersey, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Head of the River church followed by interment in church cemetery.8 He was born on March 8, 1862 at Floyd Co., Virginia.9,1,7,10 He married Virginia Ann "Jennie" Carr, daughter of John William Carr and Julina A. Conner, on November 16, 1882 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,7 William Riley "Billy" Poff died on November 4, 1945 at Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 83.9,7,8,10

Survivors include a son, William Conner of McComas; five daughters, Miss Elsie Conner of McComas, Mrs. William Cline of Bluefield, Mrs. Ernest Mathena of Princeton, Mrs. Kent Stevenson of Tazwell, Va., and Mrs. Wayne Conner in Connecticut; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Kingrea of Rt. 3, Bluefield, Nannie and Rose Conner of Christiansburg, Va; five brothers, Tom and Doc Conner of Maple Acres, and Jim, Walter and Troy Conner of Floyd County; 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in Woodland cemetery. on May 11, 1961.5

Gladys was a retired loan officer for Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association. She is survived by her sons, Ron Pillow, of Lynchburg, and Gary Pillow and wife, Denise, of Hot Springs, Va; nine grandchildren, Cora Rovang and husband, Rich, of Lovettsville, Mandy Denton and husband, Jon, Matthew Pillow, and Julia Pillow, all of Lynchburg, Jonathan Pillow and wife, Alison, of Outer Banks, N.C., Nicholas Pillow and wife, Chezley, Hannah Pillow, Leah Pillow and Daniel Pillow, all of Hot Springs. She is also survived by sister, Gwendolyn Angle; a nephew, G. Henry Angle and wife, Lorrie, all of Palm Coast, Fla; and eight great-grandchildren, Lexi, Savannah, Madeline, Simon, Chloe, River, Lucas and Lucy. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on March 14, 2012.1
