George Dillon George was among the first settlers locating in "Bear Swamp" and its vicinity prior to 1836 (took it's name from the Bear Grass Creek, which flowed through the southern section of the township). In the 1830's Chester Township, where George bought land, was a swampy area. Ditches were necessary to drain off the water and allow farming. A land deed on record shows that George Tillon "of Rush Co, IN" paid for eighty acres of land from the U.S. government on 15 Mar 1837 and paid taxes on it in 1838 of $1.41 1/4. Helms also mentions George as a founding member of the Silver Creek Church, along with John Reed. (father of his wife Eura Reed.)4
He was buried at small private cemetery, five miles south of southwest of Nehawka, Otoe Co., Nebraska.3,5 He was born on January 25, 1810 at Fleming Co., Kentucky.1,3 He married Eura Emma "Eury" Reed, daughter of Jonathan "John" Reed and Rebecca Elizabeth Conner, on September 24, 1833 at Fayette Co., Indiana.6 George Dillon died on October 12, 1860 at Otoe Co., Nebraska Territory, at age 50.1,3
