He started his journey in Abingdon, VA, born the second child of his late parents, Douglas Richard Snead, Sr. and Beulah Moody Snead.
He was also preceded in death by a beloved sister, Doris Ann Davenport; and a brother, Eugene "Gene" Snead. Doug is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carolyn Blackwell Snead; step-son, Daniel DeMartin of Stanhope, NJ; daughter, Angela Henegar of Abingdon; sisters, Teresa Woody of Morganton, NC, and Linda Snead of Johnson City, TN; brother, James Snead (Penny) of Abingdon. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren – both natural and "adopted". Since he was very young, Doug called Will Shelor Son and Will called him Dad. Will and his wife Kate have been a blessing to both Doug and Carolyn. Their children, Gracia Shelor, Jocelyn Shelor, and Elaine Shelor all call him Paw Paw. Phyllis Ann Wilson Phyllis Wilson Barkheimer, 81, of Roanoke City, passed away Wednesday February 18, 2015. A beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Phyllis was born in Floyd County, and had been a local resident most of her life. Her last working years she enjoyed volunteering at LOA Adult Care. Her parents Jim and Ethel Wilson of Copper Hill, Sister Agnes Church of Roanoke, son Jeffrey Barkheimer and daughter Patricia Hill of Salem preceded her death. She was survived by her son Gary Barkheimer and partner James Farmer of Roanoke, her dear son in law Richard Hill of Salem, and grandsons Joshua Hill and Jason Barkheimer, and granddaughter Brandy Barkheimer. She also had numerous great grandchildren. She was the sister of Paul (Pat) Wilson and wife Peggy Wilson of Rocky Mt, and James (Mike) Wilson and wife Peggy Wilson of Wirtz. Phyllis will also be missed by her faithful granddog Louie. The family would like to take this time to thank her special cousin Shelby Mowles of Roanoke, and her close friends Elizabeth Stone of Floyd, Helen “Yaya” Asimakopoulos of Roanoke, Denise Campbell of Roanoke, Sylvia Shortt of Roanoke and Cyndy Brown of Lynchburg, for their dear friendships. Phyllis we love you and will miss you greatly.2 She was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. James Wayne "Mike" Wilson James W. (Mike) Wilson of Wirtz, Va., passed away at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2019. After leaving the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge, he worked for Norfolk Southern for 32 years. After retiring, he loved farming, mowing hay and looking after his cattle and horses. Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jim and Ethel Wilson; sisters, Agnes Church and Phyllis Barkheimer; and his two loving canines, Chester and Mitzi. Paul Layne "Pat" Wilson Paul "Pat" Layne Wilson age 87 of Rocky Mount passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Interment will follow with military honors at Maple Grove Cemetery. Pat was born on November 12, 1937 at Copper Hill, VA along with his twin brother James “Mike” Wilson to Ethel and Jim Wilson. He was a dedicated & wonderful husband to Peggy Wilson, his loving wife of 60 years, and a devoted father to Todd Wilson, daughter in-law Stephanie Wilson, and special niece Sherrie Snead. He was a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, Abigail Wilson and Amelia Modrow. Pat is preceded in death by his brother Mike Wilson, and 2 sisters Agnes Church & Phylis Barkhiemer. Pat was proud to serve our Country as a Marine along side his brother Mike. Pat served for 7 years and was stationed in Saudi Arabia and Cypress on Embassy duty. On a cold night in 1956, Pat went to a dance and spotted Peggy Montgomery across the room and he jitterbugged his way into her heart. After his service as a Marine, the 2 were married in 1964. Their beautiful marriage was an inspiration & shining example for all couples to follow. He started work at SealTest Dairy as a Maintenance Technician. Later he took a job at Roanoke Gas Company. Pat was skilled at repairing nearly anything & a hardworking man who built a long career at the Roanoke Gas Company where he worked for 33 years. He started in the Service Dept. and rose through the ranks to Regulation Division Manager in the Engineering Department. He was responsible for designing & constructing regulator & meter stations that served numerous people in the Roanoke valley. He spearheaded many of the operational technology advancements during his tenure and continuously researched and implemented technology upgrades as a means of improvement. It was also a great honor and career pinnacle for him to Chair the Appalachian Gas Measurement Short Course, which included several thousand international attendees. His expertise in gas measurement and regulation was well respected. After retirement he also worked several more years at VA Utility Protection Services with his friend and colleague Rick Pevarski providing public awareness throughout the Commonwealth where he was loved and respected by all that he touched. Pat also held a master electrician & master plumbers license for many years. Pat also enjoyed the hobby of refurbishing antique tractors with his twin brother Mike. Pat’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
