After fourteen months there, she joined the nursing staff at Industrial Rayon Corporation, Covington, Va. and stayed until Rayon sold to Hercules in 1960. During this time she was visiting nurse 1939 to 1949. During the closing of Rayon and opening of Hercules, she continued to work one-half salary being paid by each corporation. In July 1961, she became full time nurse for Hercules and continued there until retirement in 1974, after which she worked part time until 1981. Soon after graduating from training school, she enrolled as a Red Cross nurse and was assigned to the Third Corps Area to an Army Reserve Hospital Unit, 1321st Service Unit in 1935. She was called to active duty with the army in 1940, but was deferred because of present position being essential to industry. She was assigned to recruitment of Army and Navy nurses and student nurses. She was appointed chairman of Home Nursing, organized and taught classes, also organized nursing service for Civil Defense. She was a member of the first organized 4-H Club in Floyd County 1927-28. She was a member of the Willis United Methodist Church and was one of the first members of the Industrial Nurses Association when it was organized and was one of the first to be a certified occupational health nurse. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby P. Conduff and Ethel P. Boone; a brother, Carl Poff and one nephew, Roy Hylton. Survivors are one sister, Rachel P. Howell, Willis; two brothers, Ewell Poff, Arthur Poff, both of Willis; two nieces, Bobbie Jean Martin, Rebecca DeHaven; five nephews, Ross A. She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Ewell Poff; as well as her infant brother. Bobbie was born in Willis, Virginia, on October 21, 1933. She had been a devoted member of the Topeco Church of the Brethren for over 50 years, actively participating as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and serving on various committees. Her last role within the church was as the President of the Topeco Women's Club. In 1950, she proudly graduated from Willis High School, where she played as a starting forward for the Willis Eagles. Bobbie later worked at Skyline Sportswear until its closure in 1985, after which she began a 25-year career at Walmart until her retirement. Following retirement, she devoted her time to assisting at Maberry Funeral Home. Amidst her work commitments, Bobbie consistently supported her children in all their endeavors, including the FCHS band and various sporting events. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Floyd County Booster Club, where she served as President. After her children graduated, she enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to support her grandchildren in their school activities and volunteered at their school. For over two decades, Bobbie was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge, serving as both treasurer and President of the Association. Even after her tenure as President, she continued to be involved in the Lodge and was honored with the highest recognition during a pinning ceremony, with the assistance of her grandchildren. Bobbie is survived by her beloved family, whom she cherished above all else. She leaves behind her daughter, Deborah Snellings of Floyd; and her son, Ervin Martin of Alexandria. Her legacy continues through her two grandchildren, Brandon (Krystal) Snellings of Richmond and Erika Snellings (Alyssa Castillo) of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Bobbie's great-grandchildren, Carson Snellings, Madelyn Snellings, and Olivia Snellings, all from Richmond, were a source of immense joy in her life. She shared a special bond with two close friends, Jo Ann Maberry, with whom she attended Lodge meetings and various children's activities - some even mistook them for sisters, and her cousin friend, Freeda "Pete" Harris, with whom she conversed two or three times daily. Additionally, she was a cherished member of the Harris/Poff family, receiving unwavering support from several nieces and nephews during her final days at home. Interment will follow in Topeco Cemetery.² She was born on October 21, 1933 at Willis, Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,2 She married Calvin Coves Martin on June 22, 1952 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ As of June 22, 1952,her married name was Martin. Bobbie Jean Poff and Calvin Coves Martin were divorced on June 24, 1964 at Floyd Co., Virginia.⁵ Bobbie Jean Poff died on September 7, 2023 at Virginia at age 89.²

     Calvin Coves Martin was buried at Duncans Chapel Cemetery, 2176 Duncans Chapel Road NW, Willis, Floyd Co., Virginia.^4,2 He was born on May 25, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^4,2,3 He married Bobbie Jean Poff, daughter of Ewell J. Poff and Beulah E. Harris, on June 22, 1952 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ Calvin Coves Martin and Bobbie Jean Poff were divorced on June 24, 1964 at Floyd Co., Virginia.⁵ Calvin Coves Martin died on May 17, 1982 at Alexandria, Virginia, at age 54.^6,4,2
