She was a life-long member of First Church of the Brethren, where she met her husband in her teenage years. Gladys was a caring homemaker and good neighbor. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law in their later years, where she truly earned her angel wings. Both Gladys and Alfred could be seen everywhere as a couple from their joint activity in church events, visiting, and helping friends and family in need, traveling to the beach and several trips to Germany to visit their son. It was unusual to see one without the other. Gladys' love of China painting translated into many gifts for family and friends. She quilted with the church group for many years, providing transportation for those otherwise unable to go. She was a charter member of the Stitch and Chatter Club, a group of young wives in the war years of the 40's who remained lifetime friends. Love and appreciation to companion Martha Redford, the staff at Our Lady of the Valley, her niece Rosemary Thomas, and Good Samaritan Hospice for their help and support during the last few months.
