Board; much loved mother of Troy (Robin) and Bill (Teresa); cherished grandmother of Blake, Michael, Drew, and Meagan; dear sister of Muzetta, Walter, Douglas, and Ira; and best friend of 65 years to Dianne Jarrell. She was a dedicated mother and proud grandmother first and foremost. Eileen treasured her children and grandchildren and loved every moment with them. She was a big kid at heart and some of her fondest memories were those playing with her grandkids. Eileen was their biggest cheerleader and attended every school or sporting event that she was able. She was an avid golfer for many years and was a member of the Hidden Valley Women's Golf Association where she made many great friends. Eileen will be missed immensely by all who loved her. on August 9, 2021.8

Dale Hamilton Slusher Sr. Dale Hamilton Slusher, 79, of Salem, VA passed away on July 23, 2022. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Rev. Madison H. and Ida A. Duncan Slusher, and George L. and Maggie Sisson Poff; parents, Madison H. Jr. and Lillian Poff Slusher; and his brother, Larry Ross Slusher. Dale is survived by Lucette McCoy (mother of his children); his children, Valerie Slusher (Steve) Skripak of Blacksburg, VA, Sonia A. Gerald of Salem, VA, Dale H. (Janet) Slusher, Jr. of Buena Vista, VA, and Stephanie Slusher (Jeff) Farnsworth of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Carly S. Skripak of Salem, VA, Megan A. (Anthony) Bradshaw of Salem, VA, Benjamin M. Slusher of Buena Vista, VA, Dana A. Skripak of Blacksburg, VA, and Reese L. Farnsworth of Charlotte, NC; as well as his Goddaughter, Nathalie Guengant (Herve) Thomas of St. Nazaire, France. Dale was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church on December 6, 1953. He attended Old Salem Elementary School and graduated in 1961 from Andrew Lewis High School. Dale served in the US Army Signal Corp from 1961-1964 and was stationed in France during his service. He worked at General Electric from 1964 until his retirement in 1997 and was a life-time member of AFL-CIO and IUE Union. He also worked part-time at Virginia Plastic Company in Roanoke, VA from 1965-1982. He also volunteered as a Hot-Line Counselor and Walk-In Counselor at TRUST from 1985-1988. Dale was a licensed private pilot taking his first solo flight on April 21, 1989 and received his pilot license on December 7, 1989. He was a volunteer pilot with the Civil Air Patrol from 1993-2010. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel and immediately followed by a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Richfield Long Term Care as well as the nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Hospice.3 He was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.3 He and Lucette Jean Alliott were divorced.3 Dale Hamilton Slusher Sr. was born on June 26, 1943 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2 He married Lucette Jean Alliott on July 18, 1963.1 Dale Hamilton Slusher Sr. died on July 23, 2022 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 79.3

As a business owner, he was a longtime mechanic with Rosedale Heavy Equipment. He enjoyed working in the yard, and loved his family very much. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest G. and Ada Dobbins Basham; siblings, Lavene Nichols and Vern Basham; son, Tim Basham; and son-in-law, Donald Maxwell. His surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Mary Basham; children, Sherry Maxwell and Terry Basham and wife, Kathy; siblings, Dorothy Palmer and husband, Bill, and James Basham and wife, Rose; grandchildren, Jennifer Moles and husband, Kourtney, Jonathan Maxwell and wife, Mindy, Josh Maxwell and wife, Christa, Stephanie Alderson and husband, Bill, and Jeremy Basham; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Basham; brother-in-law, Max Reed and wife, Louise, and their family; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Salem VA Medical Center for the love and care they provided. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. on July 24, 2018.3

He began working at the National Bank of Blacksburg when he was eighteen years old and worked there for 47 years. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 and served his country as a payroll officer near the end of World War II. He was known as a kind, gentle, humble, and compassionate man who from a child, had love for God. He and Ramona opened their home regularly to all for meals, nights, and meetings of worship and praise to God. His and Mom's love for God and for each other has been a wonderful example for the family and all who knew them. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McCoy Funeral Home, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 prior to the service that will begin at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, Blacksburg, Va. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. on June 6, 2019.5
