Earl had worked for Moore's Building Center and Pro Build as a contractor sales representative. Earl was a natural wheeler dealer and loved farming, playing softball with the Moore's softball teams, four-wheel drive racing with his wife, Linda, team bowling, an avid hunter and gun trader, mechanically inclined with building and maintaining cars, and tractors, and very passionate on residential construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sayers Slusser; parents, Oakey Schoolfield Slusser and Ethel Crawford Slusser Broughman; sister, Sadie Gusler; and brothers, Bud and Charles Slusser. Survivors include his son, Earnest "Vince" Slusser of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jeff Boothe of Fincastle; grandson, Sidney Ryan Wilcher; sisters, Rosie Welch, Lillie Fisher, Louise Slusser, and Jean Hartman; brothers, Lomax and Jim Slusser; and many nieces and nephews. Charles Edward Slusser Sr. died on January 6, 2015 at Virginia at age 60.1 He Charles Edward Slusser Sr., of Bedford, was born November 30, 1954, and went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Charlie was a beloved husband, Dad, PawPaw, brother, and friend. He had a love and passion for driving his dump trucks. He was predeceased by father, Okie Schoolfield Slusser; mother, Ethel Blanche Crawford Slusser Broughman; stepfather, George Broughman; and sister, Sadie Belle Slusser Gusler. He is survived by his wife, "Donna Jean" Dowdy Slusser; children, Marie Slusser, Charles Edward Slusser Jr. and wife, Jamie, and Jared Lee Slusser and wife, Courtney; grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Hyer, Cody James Hyer, Hannah Christine Slusser, Jacob Charles Slusser, and Aedan Lee Slusser; brothers and sisters, Otho "Bud" Slusser and wife, Betty, Rosie Welch and husband, Bobby, Lilly Fisher and husband, Ray, Earl Slusser, Lomax Slusser, Louise Slusser, Jean Slusser Hartman, and James "Jim" Slusser and wife, Trish; and special friends, "Peaches", Mike Anderson, Charlie Alls, and Charles "Horsey" Hunter. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Trinity Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held noon Saturday with the Rev. Vernon DeLong officiating. Conner, Tina J. Worley and husband, Patrick, and Teresa Jones; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Blake and Jacob Graham, Megan Worley, and Cathryn Conner. She also has one great-great-grandson, Eric Holden Mabe. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers, Beulah Vest, Colean King, Jaqueline Blackwell and husband, Harvey, Sylvia Shortt, Louise and Dorsey Thompson, Wilson and Audrey Poff, and Shirley and Emma Poff, sisters-in-law, Joyce Poff and Newassa Conner, brother-in-law, E.G. Conner and wife, Shirley, many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Melvin Poff. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. The family would like to give special thanks to Peter and Carla Lewis, friends and former neighbors. They never forgot her birthday or any other special occasion. She married Namon Reece Vest, son of John Armistead Vest and Eula Mae Akers, on March 8, 1948 at Floyd Co., Virginia.5,14,2,12,7,10,15,4 Beulah Mae Poff died on November 21, 2015 at Virginia at age 94.10 She Beulah Poff Vest, 94, of Copper Hill, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Beulah was born on January 27, 1921, in Floyd County, daughter to the late James Lafayette and Ocie Wilson Poff. She attended Crossroads Church for many years.She was preceded in death by her husband, Namon R. Vest; brothers, Edmund Poff and wife, Mabel, and Murrie Poff; sisters, Evelyn Conner and Colean King; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Blackwell, Shike King, and Diamond Shortt.She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte V. Brown and husband, Wayne, of Roanoke; and son, Donnie Jack Vest and wife, Carol, of Copper Hill. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers, Jaqueline Blackwell, Sylvia Shortt, Louise and Dorsey Thompson, Wilson and Audrey Poff, and Shirley and Emma Poff; sister-in-law, Joyce Poff; and many nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. The family would like to give special thanks to her sister, Sylvia Shortt, who was so faithful to visit "Mom" often, and also to friends and former neighbors. The family extends special thanks to the many kindnesses shown Beulah by employees and staff at South Roanoke Nursing Home and also Gentle Shepherd Hospice. on November 24, 2015.10
