Born in McComas, West Virginia, on Jan. 13, 1935 to Ethel Conner, he was pre-deceased by his son Bruce Jr. and grandson David McDowell. An avid Mets fan, he worked for Remington Shaver in Bridgeport for more than 20 years and then Burndy's in Milford before retiring. He's now at peace after fighting a long illness. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Marilyn Minto Conner, his children Linda Conner Lambeck, Suzanne McDowell, and Richard Conner; his son-in-laws Mark Lambeck and Magaro Vallejo; his grandchildren Philip Conner (Lorena), Matthew Conner (Tina), Scott Lambeck (Amy), Joe McDowell (Dennisse), Ellyn Marinho (Judson), and Gregory Lambeck. Also, his great-grandchildren Antanette, Ashlee, Philip Jr., Jordan, Aaliyah, Joshua, Justice, Madeline, Bryson, and Everett; his great-great-grandson Tavon. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Bella, cat Midnight, and many friends. A graveside service will be held at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport. on September 18, 2020.³

In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by her husband, Ercil Poff; twin brother, Luther Walters; and brother, Howard Walters. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Gurdy Manning, Myrtle Underwood, Barbara Conner, Russell Walters, and Gary Walters; and brother-in-law, Vestal Poff. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 1:00 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Charles Comer officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. She was a 1949 graduate of Martinsville High School and was employed by BassettWalker Knitting and retired from Pluma in Martinsville. She was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Young at Heart Group and was also a member of Fontaine Ruritan Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell L. Meeks; and two sisters, Elizabeth Robertson and Maxelle Burke. Surviving are three daughters, Terry Spotz, of Martinsville, Cynthia Flanagan, of Ramona, Okla., and Beth Joyce, of Louisville, Ky; one son, Vernon Meeks, of Martinsville; two sisters, Margaret Adkins, of Roanoke, and Phyllis Huntington, of Palm City, Fla; one brother, Wallace Reed, of Vinton, Va; three grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. Born in Floyd, Va., she was the daughter of the late W. Robert Anderson and Aristene Radford. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy C. Conner and J. Galen McAvoy. She attended Kenaday Presbyterian Day School and remembered going with her family in a covered wagon to the Pig River Church. Mrs. McAvoy was a past member of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, and most recently of the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren, Boones Mill, Va. Surviving: sons, William B. Conner of Kennett Square, Penn., and Glenn H. Conner and Roy C. Conner Jr., both of Jacksonville, Fla; sister, Beulah Nichols of Manetta, Va; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services were June 22 at the Flora Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Va. Interment was June 23 in the High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
