Mrs. Vest was twice married her first husband being Thomas P. King and to this union were born six children, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Harry Young, Crumpler, WV; H. W. King, McComas, WV; Mrs. E. M. Charlton and Mrs. W. E. Atkinson of Roanoke; Mrs. Z. T. Carr and Mrs. Glynn King Creasey of Pilot and a brother Joe Board of Roanoke. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Methodist church for 40 years. On Feb. 3 rd 1926 she was married to C. W. Vest, who also survives. Funeral services were conducted at Smith Chapel, Locust Grove by her pastor, Rev. S. E. Fridley, assisted by Rev. N. A. Conner and Elder J. M. Dickerson. Songs were sung by the Check High School. Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her grandsons; S. S. Carr, C. P. Carr, A. C. Carr, Edward Young, Harry Young, Jr., and her son H. W. king. The flower girls were her grandchildren. The floral offerings were neumerous and beautiful attesting to the high esteem in which she was held. on February 10, 1944.4

In 1999, he was inducted as a member of The Old Guard of The Virginia Tech Alumni Association. He has been a long time member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Claudine "Deanne" Conner Koontz; a daughter, Cathy K. Heinemann and her husband, Ric Heinemann, of Roanoke; a son, David R. Koontz and his wife, Sharon Koontz of Charlotte, N.C; a son, Glenn M. Koontz and his wife, Sandra Koontz of Aylett, Va; a daughter, Mary Dickey VanHoose and her husband, Todd VanHoose, of Alexandria, Va; five grandchildren, Carrie V. Heinemann and J. William Heinemann of Roanoke, Kendall M. VanHoose and S. Conner VanHoose, of Alexandria, Va., Laura A. Koontz of Aylett, Va; one stepgrandson, Michael D. Cunningham of Aylett, Va; one cousin, Dr. Lois G. Schwoerer, Chevy Chase, Md; many special friends from Grandin Court Baptist Church. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 1 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2002. The Rev. Kevin Meadows and the Rev. Carol Johnston will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Craghead Beeler, her parents, Clifford and Lillie Vanfossen Periman, seven brothers and two sisters.
