Norris was active in the Salem community serving as Scoutmaster for local Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV, which led them to join the Holiday Ramblers – an RV camping club. When his country called upon his duty, Norris served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Velda Gearhart; sons, Michael “Mike” Gearhart and wife, Daphne, and Timothy “Tim” Gearhart; grandchildren, Laura Brunk and husband, Daniel, Ashley Emmond and husband, Jake, Thomas Gearhart, Chad Gearhart, and Elizabeth Gearhart; great-grandchildren, Devan, Caleb, and Kendra Brunk, Autumn Emmond, and Aiden Gearhart; sister, Rhonda Thurman and husband, Larry; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
