     Shelman C. Vest died on October 7, 1934 at McComas, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 38.2,4 He Falling over an eight-foot wall, Shelman C. Vest, 38, an electrician for the American Coal company was fatally injured Sunday morning at his home at McComas. Mr. Vest was cutting kindling about 10 o'clock Sunday morning when he tripped and fell backwards over the wall. He died at 4:16 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. Vest landed on the hard surface of the highway in front of his home. Although he arose after the fall and walked to the house, he was forced to lie down on the porch. Mrs. Vest was not at the home at the time of the accident and when she returned he complained that he had fallen and "hurt his back." Mrs. Vest accompanied him upstairs, where he went to bed. Soon afterwards he lapsed into unconsciousness and died a short time later. Examination disclosed that his skull had been fractured. Mr. Vest had been in the employee of the American Coal company for about fifteen years. He was born in Floyd county, Virginia, December 31, 1895, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Vest. He is survived by his widow and one son, Wayne Martin Vest, aged 4 years, and his parents. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 at Thomas Memorial church, McComas, conducted by the Rev. J. R. Belcher, assisted by the Rev. J. M. Wysor, of Berwind, and the Rev. J. E. Davis, of Jenkinjones. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery and will be in charge of Bailey lodge 137 A. F. and A. M. Pallbearers: S. S. Cooper, Nelson Cooper, Abe Lawarence, W. P.      Ersel Adam Manning Sr. was born on November 2, 1929 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,8 He married Mildred Juanita Stewart, daughter of John Sidney Stewart and Clyde Willis, on January 7, 1950 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,9,3 Ersel Adam Manning Sr. died on August 23, 2013 at Virginia at age 83.4 He Ersel Adam Manning Sr., 83, of Copper Hill, went peacefully home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 23, 2013. He worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for over 40 years, serving as a Superintendent. Mr. Manning was a dedicated member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Check Ruritan Club for numerous years having served as club president for many years, and he served on the Farm Bureau Board. After his retirement, he and his wife, Juanita, farmed together for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mildred "Juanita" Manning and his parents, Hettie and Volly Manning. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Ed Miller of Christiansburg, Cindy and Lee Beckner of Copper Hill, Teresa and David Ingram of Copper Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Ersel Jr. and Sandra Manning of Floyd; Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Brad St. Clair, Eddie and Jessica Miller, Amie and Bobby Maxwell, Joshua Manning, Kristina and Chuck Cromer, Matthew, Jason, and Bryan Beckner, Wayne and Brandi Ingram, Kassie Ingram, and Jordan Ingram. He has been blessed by eight great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ilene and Arthur Conner and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vester and Alma Lou Manning and Joseph and Gertie Manning. The family wishes to thank Carilion Hospice and caregivers Angela Linkous and Dulinda Bender. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Marty Moyer, and the Rev. Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Sunday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd. on August 25, 2013.4
