Funeral service will be held at Noon, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Motley officiating with interment in the Willis Cemetery. He sent a few letters to his mom and sisters while in the service. He never returned home or made contact with his parents or siblings after his departure from the Navy. Found on board the Nevada in the 1920 census, he indicated that he was born and from Atlantic City, NJ.2 He was born on March 3, 1901 at Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2,3

Mr. Poff was a member of Melrose Baptist Church and a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Elaine Meador and husband David of Roanoke; granddaughter, Laura Saunders and husband Glenn of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Katy, Andrew, Abigail and Preston; sisters, Dora Jennings and husband Bob of Roanoke, Agnes Robertson of Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2000 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by the Rev. Larry Sprouse and the Rev. Bruce Griffith. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home. (366-0707) on February 21, 2000.3

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Ave. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p .m. The body will be sent to Lotz Funeral Home on Franklin Rd. in Roanoke, where a service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. The family will be at Lotz Funeral Home in Roanoke Friday 6:30 to 8 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. on January 5, 1995.1
