The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Burns-Wornal Chapel of memorial Funeral Directory with Rev. Paul Hall in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Born December 16, 1908 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late William Preston Strain and Lena Catherine Reese Strain. Mrs. Poff was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Cornett Business School and LaSalle Extension University. She received certificates in various classes including Comtomoter, Typing Speed, Junior Accounting, and Income Tax Preparation. During the depression, she worked as a floor lady at Puritan Mills in Roanoke a position that she held until 1946. From 1950 to 1954 Mrs. Poff was employed be Reliable Bookkeeping and Tax Service. From February of 1954 to February 1973, she worked as a Statistical and Fiscal Supervisor for the Department of Social Services of City of the Roanoke. Mrs. Poff was a long time member of Melrose Baptist Church having been baptized August 8, 1926 by Dr. H. W. Connelly. Through the years she served her church in many capacities. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poff was preceded in death by her stepmother, Esther Webb Strain; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer Preston Strain and Mary Rodgers Strain; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Strain Plunkett and Kenneth Reese Plunkett; a half brother, William Forrest Strain; and a half sister, Esther Ermadell Strain Friend. Surviving are her husband, Alfred L. Poff; a very special foster daughter and her husband, Elaine J. and David Meador, Roanoke; granddaughter, Laura Saunders and husband, Glenn, Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Miles and Andrew Saunders; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dora P. and Bob Jennings, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Agnes P. Roberson, Roanoke; aunt, Virginia Reese McCoy, Stuarts Draft; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including many on her husband's side of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roanoke County Rescue Squad #5, PO Box 7464, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 1996 at Melrose Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry E. Sprouse and the Rev. R. Bruce Griffith. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel. on May 28, 1996.1

Special thanks to the staff of Richfield Nursing Center for ten years of love and devoted care. Memorials may be made to Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church or the Bent Mountain Rescue Squad. on March 23, 2002.1

Mrs. Board was about 80 years of age and had been a great sufferer of rheumatism for many years and was not able to walk erect. She was a kind, good woman and was held in high esteem by all. Her husband preceeded her about 5 years ago, also one daughter, Mrs. Demona Smith preceeded her about 4 years ago. She leaves three sons surviving, namely: David Board, of Roanoke; Lee and Riley Board of Floyd County.
Her remains were interred in Wilson cemetery, after a short burial ceremony by Elder H. V. Cole.4 She was born on February 26, 1850 at Virginia.5 She married Jacob Board, son of Eli Solomon Board and Abigail "Abbie" Walters, on August 15, 1868 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1 As of August 15, 1868,her married name was Board. Beginning at the crop roads and running with the road Eastward to my outside line Which adjoins Fleming Poff and with my line to the road at the meeting house and with the road to a branch thus leaving the road running up a lane to the top of a hill near an old barn to a crop fence and with the fence at the Pine Spur road and with road to the beginning which land I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is also my will that my son Samuel S. Conner to have a certain boundary of land I have between the boundarys I gave to my two sons Peter and Albert Conner which land I also value at six dollars per acre. I also give to my said son Samuel one other peace of land beginning at the top of the hill at the crop fence near an old barn and running with the land with road to my outside which joins John O. Conner. All the land I have on the south side of the above named road to the above named crop fence which I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is also my will that my daughter Mary Poff, wife of Peter Poff, to have a certain boundary of land beginning at the old barn at the top of the hill and running with the road to the meeting house line and with my line _____ above the meeting house to a new fence and down the same to a Branch and down said Branch to my outside line and with it to the road leading to the above named Barn which land I also value at six dollars per acre.

It is also my will that the foregoing named sons and daughters pay in money to my son Jonathan Conner and my daughter, Julina Carr, wife of John Carr, _____to make them equal with the foregoing named sons and daughters. The amount of estate to be equally divided between all.
