Gladys Odell "Jackie" Manning was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.2 She was born on January 6, 1917 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2 As of December 7, 1935,her married name was Beatty.4 She married Alfred Maurice Beatty on December 7, 1935 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,4,5,6 Gladys Odell "Jackie" Manning died on March 15, 2003 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 86.2,6 She BEATTY, Gladys Manning, (Jackie), 86, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2003. Surviving are her husband, Alfred M. Beatty; son Jerry Beatty of Wiesbaden, Germany; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Manning and his wife, Het of Blue Ridge, Alvis Manning and his wife, Jackie of Union City, Ga; nieces and nephews, Ruth Ann M. Hannah, Michael Henry, Jane M. Hogge, Brenda B. Jennings, Sandra B. Koerner, Gary Manning, Robbie Manning, Eddie Moore, Johnny Moore, Anita M. Race, Rosemary H. Thomas, Carole B. Wedl. Daughter of late Mary Poff and Yuston Manning and late sister, Hazel M. Henry. Her nieces and nephews, along with their children, have been beneficiaries of her talents and loving nature. Born January 6, 1917, she lived her entire life in the Roanoke Valley, graduated from Jefferson High School. She was a life-long member of First Church of the Brethren, where she met her husband in her teenage years. Gladys was a caring homemaker and good neighbor. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law in their later years, where she truly earned her angel wings. Both Gladys and Alfred could be seen everywhere as a couple from their joint activity in church events, visiting, and helping friends and family in need, traveling to the beach and several trips to Germany to visit their son. It was unusual to see one without the other. Gladys' love of China painting translated into many gifts for family and friends. She quilted with the church group for many years, providing transportation for those otherwise unable to go. She was a charter member of the Stitch and Chatter Club, a group of young wives in the war years of the 40's who remained lifetime friends. Love and appreciation to companion Martha Redford, the staff at Our Lady of the Valley, her niece Rosemary Thomas, and Good Samaritan Hospice for their help and support during the last few months. Services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel on Monday, March 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Miller and Rev. Paul Alwine officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel. on March 17, 2003.2
