He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Wright Lawrence; daughter, Elizabeth Lawrence Whitley and husband, William John Whitley, Charlotte; son, Weldon S. Lawrence (Chip) and wife, Kimberly Hall; grandchildren, Jenna Elizabeth Lawrence, Mary Catherine Lawrence and Jordan Kay Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. George Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Lawrence; her brother, Tracy Wright and his wife, Eileen; and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from William Fleming High School and attended Roanoke College, where she met her husband. She was a lifelong Roanoke resident where she enjoyed being with her friends, playing bridge and gardening. Doris was a supporter of The Taubman Museum of Art, The Roanoke Transportation Museum, The Roanoke Foundation, The Discovery Shop and many other volunteer organizations. She was also a member of Second Presbyterian Church. We would like to say a special thanks to all the people who cared for her at The Glebe Nursing Unit and to Peggy Wise, her caregiver. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. George Anderson officiating. She is survived by daughter, Karen L. Bennett, of Kings Mountain, N.C., two grand-dogs (miniature schnauzers), Gracie and Lillie Bennett; sisters, Rebecca Ann Foley, of Hardy, Va., and Helen and brother in-law, Luther Okes, of Lynchburg, Va; stepson, James A. Hinton, of Vinton, Va., stepgrandchildren, William Hinton and Lori Pilcher; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also left to cherish her memory at Salem Health & Rehabilitation are Unit 2 staff, many friends and the residents, whom she fondly referred to as "her residents". Mrs. Hinton spent much of her adult life in the Washington, D.C., and Maryland area where she was a wife, working mother and lovingly raised her children. One of her greatest joys was helping others which was demonstrated when she joined the Red Cross as a Grey Lady and worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After the death of her husband Clarke, she moved to Burlington, W.Va., where she worked at Burlington United Methodist Family Services'. She loved the teens at Craig House and raising money for them. Mrs. Hinton has resided at Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center for 10 years and has served as President of the Resident Council for the past seven years. A Celebration of Life will be held at Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center, 1945 Roanoke Blvd., Salem, Va., 2 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, in the Activities room. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Salem. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resident Council of Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center for a piano or the charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Salem Health & Rehab for all of the love, care and laughter given to Edna during the past 10 years. on January 9, 2011.6

He was a retired coal miner and minister, member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Wesleyan Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hester Nutter Sexton; four sons, Paul Daniel of Rives Junction, Mich., Russell Lee and Marvin Edward, both of Jackson, Mich., and Roger Dale of Daniels; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae Duty and Mrs. Ester Ruth Weber, both of Rives Junction, Mrs. Doris Marie Rupert of Lennon, Mich., and Mrs. Sandra Kay Hankins of Sterling, Mich; two brothers, Fayetteville and Arnold of Jackson, Mich; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Rosella Goss of Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Della Epperly of Fayetteville and Miss Emma Sexton of Logan; 21 grandchildren a one great-grandson. on April 26, 1977.1

Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. on June 6, 2000.2
