Leon Edwin Holland was buried at Concord Cemetery, Ink, Polk Co., Arkansas.2,3 He was born on March 23, 1924 at Ink, Polk Co., Arkansas.2,3 He died on January 13, 2015 at Tulsa, Tulsa Co., Oklahoma, at age 90.3 He Leon Edwin Holland, the first-born son of William Alfred and Ruby Emma Hamlett Holland, slipped the surly bonds of earth on January 13, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born March 23, 1924 in Ink, a small farming village east of Mena, Arkansas, Leon grew up on the family farm and graduated with the Class of 1941 from Cherry Hill High School, Cherry Hill, Arkansas. After training with the National Youth Association he worked for General Motors in Bristol, Connecticut. During WWII, Leon served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Whitney in the Pacific Theatre of War from July 1943 through December 1945. After his naval service he spent several years in different businesses with his cousin, James Oscar Cagle, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Always a patriot, he was recalled to U.S. Naval service during the Korean War. He was again stationed in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Dixie from September 1950 through November 1952. After his discharge he became very interested and concentrated his education on radio broadcasting and the new booming industry of "television." He assisted in the setup in Muskogee of KTUL-TV. Later he helped move the station to Tulsa. He was Senior Engineer and Supervisor with the station until 1977 - a period of 24 years. Leon then joined OETA TV Public Broadcasting. He was Chief Engineer and Supervisor with OETA for 27 years and retired in 2004. Leon is survived by: two brothers, William Raymond Holland, Vancouver, Washington and Harold Dene Holland, Austell, Georgia. He is also survived by many cousins scattered over several states. Locally in Tulsa, Oklahoma he is survived by cousins, Albert J. Hamlett and Virginia Cagle Chrisco. Leon will be returning home to Ink, his place of birth, to be buried next to his mother and father in Concord Cemetery. Services will be held in the adjacent Concord Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Holland and the late Essie Embry Holland. He was united in marriage to Lois Holland until her passing, and then to Katie Holland. He was a machinist and a welder for Smith Pallet and for Busch Machine and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by: Son: Jack Holland and wife Mary; Daughter: Carolyn Copelin and husband Steve; Grandsons: David Holland and wife Jennifer, Tim Copelin; Granddaughter: Jackie Balentine and husband Jason; 2 great-grandchildren: Colton and Hayden Copelin. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. and Essie Holland, his first wife Lois Holland, his second wife Katie Holland, and 2 brothers, Frank Holland and Clyde Embry. Graveside services will be Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Concord Cemetery at Ink with Brother Jerry Jeffcoat and Brother Jim Copelin officiating. After her marriage on June 12, 1946, to Hoover Holland she moved to California and then to Colorado Springs in 1952 where she has since resided. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June of 2006 shortly before his death in December of that year. Janice was a homemaker and later worked as a secretary. She was active in many clubs and organizations, one of which was The Woman's Club of Colorado Springs where she was recently honored with a life-time membership. She was also a charter member of the Village Seven Presbyterian Church where she served actively as a choir member, Sunday School teacher and a deaconess until recent years. She also belonged to the Gideon Auxiliary, The Christian Women's Club and the Naomi group of Village Seven Presbyterian. She is survived by two daughters: Suzanne of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Wanda of Niceville, Florida. She has three grandchildren: Robin, John, and Janina. She also has five great-grandchildren: David, Anthony, Mercedes, Devin, and Aurora.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11th at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, 4050 Nonchalant Circle South. A viewing and visitation will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance on Wednesday, July 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 1730 East Fountain Boulevard.
