The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She also was an animal lover and after raising her nine children, she rescued and cared for her beloved dogs and cats. She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Scotty Currey of Thornton; daughter Karen Giuliani and husband, James Giuliani of Morgantown and their children, Laura Giuliani and Alex Giuliani; daughter Ann Harman of Boston, MA and her daughter, Rachel Harman of Morgantown; son Louis Gatski and wife, Sandra Gatski of Springfield, VA and their children, Jason Gatski and Katie Gatski; son John Gatski and wife Milagros Vascones-Gatski, of Kensington, MD and their son, Elias Gatski; son Steve Gatski, of Thornton; daughter Christina Woods and husband Wayne Woods of Center Point, WV; son Tim Currey and wife, Ana Currey of American Samoa; and daughter-in-law, Carole Gatski, of Portland, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Maggie (Powell) LaFon; two sons, Frank Gatski and Joseph Gatski; one grandson, Christopher Harman; son-in-law, Kyle Harman, two sisters, Natalie Stroud and Juanita Douglas; and one brother, Howard LaFon. A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Church on Eby Road near Thornton. He was born March 24, 1939, in Grafton, W.Va, a son of the late D.J. “Bill” Currey and Kathleen Belle (Lake) Currey. He is survived by two children, Tim Currey and wife Ana of Charleston, W.Va., and Christina Woods and husband Wayne of Center Point, W.Va; one grandson, Tamatoa T. Currey; five stepchildren, Karen Giuliani and husband, James of Morgantown, Ann Harman, also of Morgantown, Louis Gatski and wife Sandra of Springfield, Va., John Gatski and wife Milagros Vascones-Gatski, of Kensington, Md., and Steve Gatski of Thornton; and six stepgrandchildren, Laura and Alex Giuliani, Rachel Harman, Jason, Katie and Elias Gatski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida May (LaFon) Currey; two stepsons, Frank Gatski and Joseph Gatski; and one stepgrandson, Christopher Harman. Scotty was the manager of the Valley Inn Restaurant and Motel from 1958 to 1972 and the owner and operator of Scotty Kawasaki Company in Grafton from 1972 to 1982. He was also the Superintendent for the Taylor County Department of Highways from 1977 to 1988 and a former member of the Taylor County Democratic Committee. There will be no funeral home visitation and, at Scotty’s request, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. on November 12, 2013.2
