She was born on September 26, 1907. She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Slim" Goodwin; and two of her children, Wesley E. Perdue and Georgia A. Ebey. She was known as "Granny" by many people and worked as a cook in a few of the local restaurants like the old Elliston Truck Stop and Wilson's Restaurant. She loved everybody and was loved by everybody and will be missed. She is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lucy E. Workman, of Elliston, Claudine and Raymond Cocke, of Burton, Michigan, and Mary and Fred Phillips, of Elliston; along with 15 grandchildren, 41 greatgrandchildren and 51 greatgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Seneca Baptist Church with the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in East Hill Cemetery, Elliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either the Elliston Fire Department or the Shawsville Rescue Squad. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem. on January 17, 2007.3

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, May 24, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dan Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va. on May 21, 2008.1

Grider had both arms torn off, and Smith lost one.4 He married Ruth Emily Rowland.5 O. C.
