Willard Charles Simpson was buried at Restvale Cemetery, Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.4 He A little history of Willard Charles Simpson's land. Restvale Cemetery in Floyd Co., Virginia, was established in the 1950's. on the land of Willard Charles Simpson. He was first person buried there, in 1958. Originally the land was owned by Willard Simpson's mother, Bethanie Frances Conner Simpson, second wife of William Tazewell Simpson. Bethanie inherited the land, estimated to be about 15 acres, from her father, Daniel Conner. Willard Simpson inherited about 9 acres from his mother and the rest went to his sister. Willard had a Country Store and Canning Factory as he also owned several acres of farm land. There was a large mill next to the Canning Factory and was powered by a water wheel. Willard is buried at Salem Church a few miles away. His son Poff was in service in North Africa as was a foster son John or Johnny Settles.5 He was born on December 25, 1895 at Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia; On his WWI Draft Registration card he listed his birth date as Dec 25, 1896.4,1 He married Garnett Eloise Poff, daughter of Joseph Johnson Poff and Miriam Ella Kropff, on August 29, 1916 at Bristol, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.6,7,2 Willard Charles Simpson died on August 23, 1958 at Check, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 62; Willard died by suicide.4,5,2

She was a member and treasurer of the Copper Hill United Methodist Church. She was employed by County Records of Floyd. She is survived by her husband, Hubert R. Harman of Check; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jem Harman of Roanoke, and Joe and Anne Harman of Lenexa; one daughter, Sandi Harman of Roanoke; one sister, Grathel Sheppard of Grafton, Va; grandchildren, Bryce Harman, Brian Harman, and Karl Harman; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with the Pastor Dan Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Copper Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund. on May 6, 2004.7

Lawrence, Madison Heights; two brothers, Stanley Lawrence, Floyd; Abe Lawrence, Bluefield, W.Va; four sisters, Mrs. Ollie L. Lawrence, Mrs. Myrtle L. Hamlet, Mrs. Ada L. Lawson, Mrs. Elizabeth L. Hall, all of Salem, five grandchildren.
