Kerry Clay Lawrence Kerry Lawrence, Aug 16, 1952 - Jan 27, 2025. Kerry Clay Lawrence, age 72, of Roanoke, VA passed away peacefully Monday, January 27, 2025, surrounded by her family. From an early age, it was clear that Kerry was an artist. She loved to write, as evidenced by the countless journals she left behind. Her writing skills and creativity led to a highly successful career in advertising, culminating in the coveted Addy Award for Best in Show. Kerry may have been short in stature and soft-spoken, but her written words could roar! Later in life, Kerry found fulfillment in floral design and arrangement. It brought her great joy to share beauty with those around her. Kerry's love for animals was equally strong: from a Garfield-sized cat named Boogerman to her beloved Too-Too, her pets provided much companionship over the years. Kerry is survived by her loving daughter Katie Griggs (husband Joe), granddaughter Isis, sister Robin Combs (husband Gary), and brother Chris Conner (wife Barbara). Her memory also lives on in many other family members and friends. Kerry was preceded in death by her father, Clay Lawrence, mother Christine Conner, step-father Garmon Conner, and sister Tonya Lagan. She was also preceded in death by her first-born twins, but we rejoice that mother and children are now reunited.11 She was born on August 16, 1952 at Roanoke, Virginia.5,7,8,9,10,11 As of December 8, 1972,her married name was Griggs.9 She married Harvey Meade Griggs on December 8, 1972 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.5,9 Kerry Clay Lawrence and Harvey Meade Griggs were divorced on November 1, 1988 at Roanoke, Virginia.10 Kerry Clay Lawrence died on January 27, 2025 at Virginia at age 72.11

Ruby spent several years tormented by Alzheimer's Disease, which robbed her of her keen enjoyment of life and her expertise in the business world. Ruby was born on June 9, 1918, in Floyd County, Va. to Eliza Lawrence Hall and Edgar Eldon Hall. Later, her family moved to Salem, Va. After completing high school and some college, Ruby moved to Washington, D.C. to begin her employment. She soon met Larry Garven, her wonderful first husband and the devoted father of their three children. During their married life, Ruby and Larry always worked together in their businesses-a restaurant in Washington, D.C., the Gayheart Restaurant (Culpeper, Va.), the All Star Bowling Lanes Restaurant (Roanoke, Va.), and Beltone Hearing Service (Roanoke, Va.) After several heart attacks and battling Alzheimer's Disease, Larry passed away in 1976. Ruby continued to strengthen her expertise in antiques and art and later became an active, licensed appraiser. Ruby, an avid walker in Tanglewood Mall, was also a "regular" at the Roanoke Athletic Club for many years. Ruby always enjoyed a challenging game of Bridge with friends. Ruby's life was blessed by meeting and soon marrying the second love of her life, Robert Sides. They shared their love of travel across many countries until Bob's unfortunate death in 1991. When Ruby's mental health began to fail, God blessed her with J.R. and Ilene Wimmer, who moved into her home and became her wonderful care providers and extended family. We know that Ruby would not have enjoyed so many of her final years without their patient, loving, dedicated care. Ruby was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church in Troutville, Va. She was well-known in the Abundant Life Sunday School Class for her scrumptious Chocolate Mint Petit Fours. Ruby is predeceased by her parents, both her husbands, a brother, Euray Hall, a sister, Agatha Smith, and a nephew, Robert Howard. Saddened by her passing, Ruby is survived by two sisters, Eula Goodwin (Buford) of Lady Lake, Florida and Pauline Seal of Salem, Va; three daughters, Carole Anne Willhide, Crescent City, Calif., Donna Finney (Curtis) of Suwanee, Ga., and Vicki Trest Dalton (Earl) of Fincastle, Va. Ruby loved her four grandchildren, Michael Willhide, Crescent City, Calif., Kevin Finney, Roanoke, Va., Stacy Finney, Suwanee, Ga., and Jennifer Trest Shepherd, Roanoke, Va. "Grandma Ruby" has three precious great-grandchildren, Shayna, Keiley and Jayden, all of Roanoke, Va. Ruby and her family would like to thank Dr. Michael Basile and his nursing staff for their years of conscientious medical care and the Carilion Hospice Team (Nan, Myrna, Martha and Clara) for their loving care. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Va. on June 20, 2002.5
