Perhaps this is the same cemetery.3,4 He was born on August 8, 1895 at Salt Well, Harrison Co., West Virginia; On his death certificate his birthplace is listed as Ballard, West Virginia.7,2,5 He died on February 11, 1934 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 38.2,3 He Claude Conner, 36, of Rocky Gap, died at 4:30 Sunday afternoon at St. Luke's hospital, succumbing to injuries sustained six weeks ago in an automobile accident at South Gap, Bland county. Virginia. Burial in the Pleasant Flat cemetery. The accident also resulted in the injury of George Sword, of Rocky Cap, who recovered without the necessity of hospital attention. Mr. Conner suffered fractured vertebrae with injuries to the spinal cord, fractures of five ribs, a fracture of the collar bone and internal injuries. Mr. Conner had been a resident of Rocky Cap for the last five years, having gone there from Ballard, Monroe county, his native home. Surviving are his parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Conner, of Ballard, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. R. A. Hopkins, Bluefleld; Mrs. W. B. Ballard, Princeton; Mrs. Arch Spangler, Mullens; Frank Conner, Rocky Gap; John D. Conner, of Ballard; Ellett Conner, Bozoo, and Merrill Conner, of Mar France, W. Va. on February 13, 1934.3

Survivors include his wife, Delilah Shumate Conner; three daughters, Mrs. Emmett Skaggs of Bozoo, Mrs. Hunter Bradley of Cashmere and Mrs. Dean Keatley of Wilmington, Del; two brothers, John D. and Merrel Conner, both of Pearisburg, Va; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Spangler of Ballard, Mrs, Euna Hopkins of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Myrtle Ballard of Princeton; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hobart Canterbury, Norman Robinson, Tony Bradley, Earl Martin, John Woodson and Joe Dunn. Women of the church will carry flowers. on December 1, 1964.6

Funeral Services will be 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 111 Market Street, Peterstown, W.Va. Survivors include two sons, Danny Bradley and wife, Amy, and Donny Bradley and wife, Debbie, all of Cashmere, W.Va; five grandchildren, Matthew and Hunter Bradley, Sara Stauter, James and Rosanna Bradley; and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Hoover. Burial will follow in the Orchard Cemetery, Ballard, W.Va. on July 18, 2012.3

     Dora Bell Hufford was buried at Pocahontas Cemetery, Rt. 102, Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., Virginia.3 She was born on May 9, 1895 at North Carolina.1,3 As of February 13, 1919,her married name was DeWese.1,4 She married Hanston Cassel "Toy" DeWese, son of Henry Cassell DeWeese and Sarah Jane Kelley, on February 13, 1919 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,2,4 Dora Bell Hufford died on June 9, 1924 at McComas, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 29; Fletcher and Dora burned to death in a fire.1,5,3 She WELCH, June 10 - State highway construction received it set-back here yesterday when several miles of newly graded road were washed out by a cloudburst on the North fork of the Elkhorn river. Roads east and west of Welch were blocked, in some places being under five or six feet of water. A coal tipple at Rolfe, and a number of small houses along the river bank at Keystone, Northfork and Superior were washed away, and basements of about 20 stores were flooded. Damage in the Elkhorn valley was estimated to reach at least $100,000. Much damage was done in Mercer county where eight lives were lost and bridges and sections of rail lines washed away. The fatalities occurred on Crane creek near the tipple of the American Coal company. A huge pile of slate undermined by the water, crashed onto a house at the foot of the pile, burying seven people. The eighth victim was a member of a rescue party. The dead: Mrs. Shellmon C. Vest and 5-year-old son; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Dewese, Mrs. Toney Dewese and two daughters, 2 and 5 years of age, and Amelio Premoveno, the last named being a member of a rescue party. It may be several days, it was said, before the bodies can be recovered from under the slate. on June 10, 1924.5

     Bertha "Vidie" Hufford was buried at Pocahontas Cemetery, Rt. 102, Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., Virginia.4 She was born in April, 1892 at North Carolina.1,4 As of June 20, 1917,her married name was DeWeese.5 She married Fletcher Lee DeWeese, son of Henry Cassell DeWeese and Sarah Jane Kelley, on June 20, 1917 at Mercer Co., West Virginia.3,5 Bertha "Vidie" Hufford died on June 9, 1924 at McComas, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 32.2,6,4 She WELCH, June 10 - State highway construction received it set-back here yesterday when several miles of newly graded road were washed out by a cloudburst on the North fork of the Elkhorn river. Roads east and west of Welch were blocked, in some places being under five or six feet of water. A coal tipple at Rolfe, and a number of small houses along the river bank at Keystone, Northfork and Superior were washed away, and basements of about 20 stores were flooded. Damage in the Elkhorn valley was estimated to reach at least $100,000. Much damage was done in Mercer county where eight lives were lost and bridges and sections of rail lines washed away. The fatalities occurred on Crane creek near the tipple of the American Coal company. A huge pile of slate undermined by the water, crashed onto a house at the foot of the pile, burying seven people. The eighth victim was a member of a rescue party. The dead: Mrs. Shellmon C. Vest and 5-year-old son; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Dewese, Mrs. Toney Dewese and two daughters, 2 and 5 years of age, and Amelio Premoveno, the last named being a member of a rescue party. It may be several days, it was said, before the bodies can be recovered from under the slate. on June 10, 1924.6
